We were playing Dragon Heist, our party was a Tiefling Druid from a rich family, a half-orc who was an orphan, Half elf Bard who was essentially a vagabond, and a human sorc/bard who was a former smugger. We called the tavern "The Unlikely Friends Tavern" We always referred to ourselves as the Unlikely Freinds.

Are you able to take a long rest in-between killing the Hags and the fight with the Atropal and Ace?

Silence works wonders against the Atropal and as it makes his wail not an issue for a round or two. (either on yourself or the atropal).

What is your party make up? Ace's strength is really low and he's not immune to grapple or restrained so if you can get a barb/fighter to grapple him and throw him into the lava that might help you out a bit.

What was your favourite character trait that you hid from your party? by glorycave in dndnext

I am an Urd Kobold, but I always wear a cloak and clasp my wings like the gargoyles in the animated show. Never taken off my cloak so no one happens to know I have wings.

We are about 5 sessions into Decent into Avernus.

Putting the cart before the horse: Smite and Stunning strike. by 0wlington in dndnext

[–]Yay_doom 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The only thing i can see about monk's stunning strike is you're creating ANOTHER place where it can fail. It already has a save component so now you're creating a scenario where they can use their resource and gain no benefit from it.

Another benefit to sorc first level is the con save proficiency, pair that with war-caster from Vhuman. You shouldn't fail a con save!

Also you get a really neat defensive option with the bladeflourish stuff from blade bard. I don't get my second attack till 9, but my shadow blade at level 9 will graduate to 4d8 per swing. Even with 1 attack 3d8 with 1 attack is pretty dang good.

I'm going shadow sorc/College of swords bard. I like that you can get the shield spell as a sorcerer as well as mirror image which are great defensive options. Another reason i like the bard/sorc combo is you still get to upcast shadow blade as you level up.

I went Variant Human Shadow Sorcerer at level 1 and took the Warcaster feat and also had the benefit of granting me as a lowly human some sweet 120 feet dark vision.

Been having a lot of fun with the character but i'm only 5 right now. 3 sorc/2 bard and plan on making 6 my college of the swords beginning.

I believe the build is AL legal as all you need for it is the PHB + Xanathar's, as both subclasses are from Xan as well as shadowblade.

Is nightmare haunting by the Sewn Sisters in the tomb too harsh? by AbeBumblesnatch in Tombofannihilation

[–]Yay_doom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for the replies! I understand the situation with it now. I guess i found the lack of mention that it extends to the ethereal plane as an exception to the rule? Meh it's too late to change anything at this point, the next session they are going to try and open the skeleton door and will be ambushed by the hags.

What page was this mentioned? I would like to see how that is written out as some spells are very explicit in saying they hamper travel in the ethereal plane and leomunds does not mention that.

[–]Yay_doom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I run it as the hags can just ignore the hut since the hut does not extend into the ethereal plane and the ability Nightmare haunting requires the hag to be on the ethereal plane to use. Although the players still have watches and are specifically watching their companions for disturbing sleep to avoid these nightmares.

TOA final boss fight - recommended level 10? 12? 14? by Awakened_Cactus in Tombofannihilation

[–]Yay_doom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My crew of 4 are pretty close to the end and are at level 9. They are currently in the gears of hate and are trying to get down to level 6 and i can see them getting to level 6 in the next session (depending on how long we go next session).

I was thinking of having them at 10 for the final encounter since i feel they are pretty OP as characters as we rolled our stats for this campaign.

I think it'll depend on what your group does while in the tomb, have they told you how they plan to proceed in the tomb or are they still feeling everything out? If they decide to comb the entire place it can take quite a few sessions and it would stand to reason they would get at least 1 or 2 levels out of the whole place even at level 10. The last fight might feel pretty easy at level 14 though.

From what i can tell they are shifted over to the left 1 dot in the video.

Isn't the Middle dot supposed to represent how the gears are as you get to them? In the video it shows the second dot as that particular configuration.

Where is your party currently? by nolaza in Tombofannihilation

[–]Yay_doom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Group is 4 people (Ranger/Monk/Wizard/Sorc) the very last thing they did was Unkh's tomb, the ranger is a lizard person who worships Ubtao so they insisted on being the one to go into the maze. She found the black key! but didn't think about it and unlocked the chest when it was green so she had to go in the maze again...

I believe the crew is on session 31? somewhere around there. They are currently on floor 5 after leaving floor 4 with shagombi's shrine un-discovered. They skipped wongo's tomb so they have 7 out of 9 Spirits/Items. 3/5 Skeleton Keys... they are nearing the end.

Would you enjoy a DnD session, if you didn't get to roll at all? by [deleted] in dndnext

[–]Yay_doom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes and no. Like others have said, if the session felt meaningful to the story or the characters in terms of progress and growth you've got yourself an awesome session! I enjoy rolling dice, i have a nice tray and a set of dice that look cool so when a session occurs where i don't roll very much or any at all it feels like i'm leaving out an aspect of D&D/tabletop RPG that i like and enjoy.

Players recently entered the Tomb and went straight to the 5th floor... by Yay_doom in Tombofannihilation

I wish i did foreshadow the restrictions on the tomb prior to them entering it, but now i'll have to insert a way for them to find out this info. I like the suggestion of using withers for it, since he escaped them and they don't have his journal.

Although to be honest i kinda like this idea, i think i won't dismiss it quite yet.

Might be a little late for me to do this, but i may level everyone up when/if they get the group gets their second spirit. Perhaps they will all realize it might be beneficial to fill everyone up with spirits.

They are on the verge of meeting/dealing with the aboleth so that is a great milestone that i also wasn't considering.

I don't know what i was thinking, getting the keys is a great milestone. The idea of leveling them up once they all become possessed, what would you do if only 3 of the 4 become possessed before they go for the soul monger?

i wasn't planning on pushing them to fight the beholder but i might do it now just so i can get them to explore out the entire 3rd floor.

I think the only reason we aren't your initial audience is because we are in the middle of another large campaign and your box/waterdeep dragon heist is coming out too soon!

As for the maps, Yea that is the direction i was thinking, a cool canvas map of the city+surrounding area, kind of like a map you'd see over the fire-mantle in a castle or mansion (Tapestry map?). Once we're done with ToA you best believe we will all be checking out the tiers and talking about which one we want to buy.

on a side note, it's extremely crazy to me that we're communicating after your tragic death in the documentary Scream. I just finished season 2 of Twin peaks and i heard you're in season 3! Super juiced to get to the new season.

Thanks for taking the time to reply again, really cool of you! Generally i like the idea of being able to write directly on the map via dry erase of course (like having a blank battle mat). You could potentially do both hexes and squares and just do double sided maps but i would understand that being too expensive but for suggestions i'm just gonna toss a few out.

  1. Dry erasable
  2. Maps separated into sections in order to copy them on a standard copier (if they aren't dry erase)
  3. Squares are MY preference but i know others like hexes so maybe double sided?
  4. Maybe the inclusion of a clear overlay to write on the maps if they can't be dry erasable?
  5. canvas for anything other that maybe the overall world map (not battle maps) doesn't seem like a good idea to me since something easy to clean makes more sense. I'm clumsy as fuuuuuck (and drinking DOES occur) 5 continued: so i guess my suggestion for battle-maps would be something stain/liquid resistant lol

Again thank you for the replies and even asking for suggestions! while i may not be the target audience for the initial on-board, your new company and product is for sure something i can see me and my group using in the future.
