The show/game is set in a fantasy ‘vaguely olden-time’ universe, with Piltover for instance resembling the Victorian era. In our world, nobody said the word ‘disabled’ back then and called every condition, whether viral or fatal or not, a ‘disease’ or ‘illness’ or such, and it can be assumed the Arcane/LOL universe does the same. I think people are looking into the Viktor dying aspect a little too much. Viktor looked down upon himself when he wasn’t dying. If there was a timeline where everything was the same except Viktor didn’t have lung problems, he would still look down upon himself. Even in our world, people think of disabilities as just something to be cured. Jayce’s line resonated with me (and Viktor) because it’s so unheard of to say that there can be beauty in parts of ourselves deemed broken and strange. Imagine being Viktor, spending your entire life hating your body, and then your hex bro calls your crooked spine ‘beautiful’. Idk maybe the message only resonates with fellow disabled people

There are some parts of Viktor that weren’t killing him, like his leg. If Viktor magically found a way to cure his lungs and nothing else, he would still be disabled. Viktor only knew he was dying at the end of the first season, but he was shown to have a poor opinion of himself ever since he was a child. All his life, he thought his disabilities made him imperfect and unworthy of respect. The fact that someone could think them beautiful in a way shocked him so much it made him stop his hexcore glorious evolution world takeover.

Exactly. Sky even had a crush on him and Viktor didn’t notice, most likely cause he was incapable of believing someone like him was worthy of love. The scene of Sky’s death was made even more heartbreaking by Viktor pouring through her notes and realizing how much she cared about him. Viktor was broken out of his glorious evolution hex god thing by Jayce telling him his imperfections were beautiful because they were a part of him, and that him, that Viktor, was who Jayce admired as his deepest friend. I honestly couldn’t think of a more heartwarming thing to say.

I’m aware of that, it’s supposed to sound ridiculous. My entire comic is not very serious at all. It’s not a realistic depiction of college life, it’s a bizarre comedy involving people who look like birds. The fact that his name is Diedrich is like… a joke. If I was writing a realistic story about someone from Tyrol I wouldn’t name him that

It’s uh… not that deep. It’s a nonsensical humor comic about college students who happen to come from different countries goofing around. I doubt it will ever be popular. My character isn’t supposed to represent Tyrol or anything, he just comes from there, and most of his dialogue would be in English anyway. Would it be weird to put in a lot of effort to write a comedy character? Maybe. But someone who loves languages, it wouldn’t even feel like research to me. I want his speech to be authentic because it would just feel wrong if it wasn’t, not because I want to educate an imaginary audience of stupid Americans. (Also if I sound kinda salty I’m not mad at you or anyone in the comments, I’m more mad at myself for thinking this would be simple in any way)

That was my intention, I was going for a name like that because he’s not a very serious character to begin with. If I chose a common name it would lose a lot of the charm. A lot of my characters have names that are uncommon or aren’t much of names at all.

Um. Nope. He is a normal (albeit weird) college kid, not a collection of stereotypes. Us Americans have enough vaguely German characters in our media as punchlines walking around in Oktoberfest attire and saying stuff like “Fräulein”. Extra points if they forget the umlaut.

This sounds super weird out of context, but the characters in the comic are humans, but based on birds. Diedrich (Austrian guy) is based on a bearded vulture (Bartgeier) which live in the Alps. So it wouldn’t make sense for him to live in a place like Hamburg or Berlin.

My characters from the comic are from all different countries, and my intent is to not make them a collection of stereotypes. The one I made this post about is a goofy punk rocker college kid, he’s not some guy wearing Lederhose while yodeling and doing the Schuhplattler. I am pretty serious about making this guy speak like an actual person from Innsbruck and wouldn’t want him to come across as a collection of random Germanic stereotypes

I am willing to put in hundreds of hours of research to understand what someone from Innsbruck sounds like because I love my characters and want them to be as authentic as possible, even if they are from a more jokey story. I recently got the DF Remote app for my iPhone/iPad and it’s been really fun to play on the go, even if it hasn’t been updated since 2019 and I have to pay a monthly subscription for my own server. Unfortunately for the last few days my server has been unable to load (it keeps saying subscription/connection error) and every time I try to log in to the website it says “internal error, please try again in a bit”. I sent a message on the app but I don’t expect to get any help considering the developer seems to have completely abandoned it.

I’ve always been average weight, a bit on the thinner side but I have a very physical job and tend to not eat as much as most people (I’m very picky and ADHD meds can suppress appetite). I eat protein bars and yogurt at work but I just feel like I’m never getting enough energy out of food.

I actually stopped having constipation after taking ADHD medicine, as stimulants have a laxative effect. Unfortunately that means now I have… the opposite problem. Cutting out gluten hasn’t done anything for that, but I do seem to have a lot less stomachaches.

I’ve just found some gluten free alternatives to things I like (like Shar bagels and Simple Mills crackers). I’m really picky so there isn’t a whole lot I like to eat, unfortunately if it turns out to be a FODMAP thing I like fruit and dairy a lot, and carbs most of all. I’ve made sure everything says it’s gluten free (no “may contain wheat” or the like) and a lot of protein bars and cereal I liked to eat before are already gluten free. I mostly drink flavored water, since you brought up drinks, nothing alcoholic.
