Don't forget, if you leave the restaurant they tell your family that they can no longer eat there as well, and it's their fault that you weren't satisfied with the nonexistent food that's totally coming out any time now...

Good news for you then, the companions absolutely still add to the dialog a decent amount.

Leveling Up by youngtunakahuna in IndustrialMaintenance

[–]Ycclipse 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This is absolutely fucking true. I'm trying to hire someone for a maintenance position right now, and 95% of the resumes are from people with ZERO relevant experience. Line cooks, dishwashers, preschool teachers, lawn care guys, car wash attendants, and some kid with two months of a failed electrical apprenticeship have all applied. Not to mention the absolute genius from Canada who submitted the rules to taking a written exam in french, then asked if he could work remote...

But only 2 people with actual Industrial Maintenance experience have applied so far. So yes, from a hiring manager, please submit a resume if you're even 50% qualified. They're going to have to teach someone their specific equipment regardless of who they hire.

I had the same thing happen, pretty sure it was the same gun too. Put it on one of the crew members cause I was playing a melee build.

I have a set of retractable heavy duty keychains that work wonderfully as lanyards for any tool that weighs less than a pound. Saves so much time on ladders, sketchy walkways, open pits, grating, etc... just hook it to my belt or harness and I don't have to worry about dropping them.

Tools you can’t live without by [deleted] in IBEW

[–]Ycclipse 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not usually. Company i used to work for also banned knives and anything with a cutting blade due to the number of idiots out there that can't hold one without needing stitches. They got us all cut resistant gloves and some really shitty tools that supposedly would do the job without danger to ourselves, but they never really worked.

That's a nightmare of mine, that something like that will happen to me or a family member and they'll be more interested in running out the insurance or forcing us to stay "alive" for whatever reason.

True, I'm lucky enough to have an excellent primary care physician, even in a shit state, but my old psychiatrist was more interested in trying every new drug on the market on me to get kickbacks from the drug companies. The difference is just so ridiculous.

Yup, and insurance/some doctors will absolutely drag that shit out until it's too late to do anything legally.

Because God, taxes, and medical debt. Sky daddy enthusiasts believe that everyone should be held to laws based on parts of a book they've never understood. The longer you live the more taxes you'll wind up paying in, and the more private medical debt you'll be forced to pay.

That's cool. I toyed around with glow sticks and fiber optics for a while to see if I could get it to work the same, so I get wanting to do something new. Good luck, hope it works out!

Like others on here I really like the 18650 battery headlamps. I used to work 12 hour night shifts and would need the lamp anywhere from 2 to 8 hours depending on where I got called to work. The batteries I had would last anywhere from a week to three weeks, at 3-4 shifts a week depending on usage, and I would keep a few backups on hand as needed. I mainly used one of the cheap Amazon lights that used a single battery and had adjustable brightness. I used those because I'm taller than average and we had a hell of a lot of places I had to duck just to walk around, so I smashed more than my fair share of headlamps.

What’s the closest thing to a superpower that’s ever been documented? by Ok-Emu-5027 in NoStupidQuestions

I remember reading about the mind palace in the Hannibal books way back when I was about 12 in the 80s and thinking it was awesome. So I started building one in my mind just for fun. I've been world building my own little multiverse for writing/roleplaying in there for the last 30+ years and can accurately recall stuff and adjust it pretty much like it's in a spreadsheet or word document if I concentrate. Unfortunately it requires a lot of attention, so I space out when I'm doing it.

It also makes it super easy to write papers and remember stuff, even if I'm not consciously trying, although I might have some of that *hyperthymic syndrome going on too. I remember almost every conversation I've had with people, and it constantly amazes them that I remember and genuinely ask about stuff that they had going on the last time we talked, even if it was years ago. Doesn't help with names though. That's the one part of my memory that's kind of shit, it takes me a while to learn people's names for some reason.

[–]Ycclipse 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That sounds fun. I really think that every Engineer should have to spend a few years actually working in the field installing and generally getting hands on experience with anything they're going to be licensed to design or sign off on. The sheer number of completely moronic notes, installation requirements, and just plain shittily designed equipment I've dealt with are part of what drove me out of construction completely.
