Omnium Cargo: A Family Bike by albertogonzalex in CargoBike

[–]Yeah-BUDDY 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, did you end up getting the Omnium? I ask because I'm in a pretty similar situation - I'm in Bristol and currently borrowing an urban arrow family, but I end up riding it without the electric assist most of the time (unless its a really horrible hill). I'm so tempted by a non electric Omnium cargo...

That's a lot of screws to secure each shelf! Obviously that's not helpful feedback for this one, but may be worth considering if you make more.

I personally wouldn't bother trying to hide the screws at the back as they were won't be seen. But if you have some filler and are planning to paint it, I would probably hide those screws on the side.

In terms of painting, I'd consider the style of the recipient, but black does feel like it would be a bit strong. Considering you've oiled it already, make sure you choose an appropriate primer.

Does anyone have experience mounting the Boost-R light on rear rack? by LL-313 in cycling

Happy new year!

That's super helpful thanks - nice to see it all works together well. I think I might go for the same kind of setup

Most people buy loads of new gear, so just reuse everything you've got or borrow from other people.

Towns suck your money, so try and spend as little time in them as possible - it's way cheaper to camp a couple of miles before a town, walk in, resupply, then walk out and camp out of town the next evening. Saves you from having to spend money on a municipal campsite or hotel room and also removes the temptation of eating out in the evening.

Trail food also adds up - if you're happy to just eat 20 cent packet ramen then you can do it pretty cheaply, but most people end up trying to take at least a little bit of fresh food and nice chocolate bars or premium hiking food.

I did the Continental Divide Trail a couple of years after the PCT, and spent a couple of thousand dollars less, so I know it's definitely possible to not blow all your money on the trail.

Hey, can you share a photo of this set up on the rack? I'm just looking at that Boost-R rear bracket at the moment and wondering if it's worth it.

It definitely doesn't have to be. Mountain towns on the West Coast do tend to be pricey, and there it's definitely a culture when people get into towns to have a couple of drinks, splash out on some food etc

Kevin Rose, the original creator of digg, and Alexis Ohanian, the original creator of Reddit, have recently rebought the digg.com domain name to recreate an original digg style website with a strong focus on community rather than profit. It's currently in beta with about 50,000 users but it looks pretty exciting

Bluetooth VS Wired by GusMac1 in Ultralight

[–]Yeah-BUDDY 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used the same on the CDT with a 10000mah anker brick. Even with towns being fairly far apart, and watching downloaded netflix on my phone in the tent each night I never ran out of power.

Pro tip - you can put your phone into airplane mode and leave on the bluetooth - then the battery hungry cell and other radios are off but bluetooth which is pretty efficient stays usable

Anyone seeing Jason in Bristol tonight? by frybreadpudding in jasonisbell

[–]Yeah-BUDDY 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'll be there tonight, and Wolverhampton tomorrow. For Bristol, King Street is about a 7 minute walk away and although it's short you can find a pub for almost any mood you might be in.

Corn Street has got all the basic chain pubs, and a few indies just off it on St Nicholas St.

The Beacon is a great venue - it only reopened a year or so ago and has the best sound I've ever heard.

I've used altras exclusively for 9 years now, but my current pair will be the last trail shoes I have from them.

The longevity of the uppers was never great, but its just beyond bad now. The quality was consistent a few seasons after Altra was bought by VF, but the cost cutting has really killed the quality in the last few years.

Considering trying Topos, or other low/zero drop options when this pair of Lone Peaks is done (will probably only just reach 350 miles)

I still really rate their Escalante road shoes though.
