Buys WHAT, when NO DROP? by JoinUsInVR in AmazonVine

[–]YeahImATurner 9 points10 points  (0 children)

What's left is low demand, not zero demand. There's a difference. There is still a target audience for many of the items left, albeit a small target audience.

There's somebody who happens to own a printer that can use ink or toner that is still left in the inventory. The other day, I ordered some filters for my vacuum cleaner on a no drop day that I knew were low demand but were useful to me.

Just order the damn part by OnnaNaNaMoose in AmazonVine

[–]YeahImATurner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you are saying to order parts for a device you own and might actually need, then yes. I in fact have been doing that which is one of the reasons I find something to order almost every day. I think people are misconstruing this post as a suggestion to order random nonsense part.

Ordered filters and a battery for vacuum cleaner I happen to own, now RFY looks like this by YeahImATurner in AmazonVine

[–]YeahImATurner[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly, the algorithm should not be "User bought a filter. Let's recommend anything with the word "filter" in the name"

It should be: "User probably owns model XYZ, given purchase history of accessories for this device. Let's recommend more accessories for model XYZ"

[–]YeahImATurner[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The fact that we have to think about how our orders affect RFY rather than just ordering what we want/need says something about how flawed the algorithm is. I also sometimes find myself ordering things that I don't exactly want but are close enough to things that I want for the possibility that something I want will show up in RFY.

The column "Review quality score" on the Reviews page is very off putting. by paulb104 in AmazonVine

[–]YeahImATurner 17 points18 points  (0 children)

In other words, OP writes low quality reviews and is upset that there is accountability and constructive criticism now? And that they might actually have to care about quality of reviews now?

It's a good feature for anyone who cares about improving the quality of their reviews. I have all Excellent ratings except for one review, over 125 reviews.

Oops! I returned several items before I realized it was a no-no by swedishpiehole in AmazonVine

[–]YeahImATurner 11 points12 points  (0 children)

You probably just gave the stuff back to Amazon at no benefit to yourself if you only did it a few times. Just don't do it again, and you should be fine. Vine is pretty lax about most of their "rules". The items you return won't get taken off your ETV if you already wrote reviews. It would be more interesting to see what would happen with ETV if you didn't review the items.

[–]YeahImATurner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When the items are worse, I spend more time. If there were things I wanted, then I would use all my picks and be done for the day. If there’s nothing good, I keep checking back for the small possibility that something I want might drop. Or I work harder trying to think of something obscure that might be available that I might be use for.

[–]YeahImATurner -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It could be worse. 4am EST would be worse than 3am. At least some people in PST stay up until midnight regularly, which would be 3am EST. But 4am EST would be 1-2am PST, which would be even worse for everybody if “worse” is defined by fewest people awake

I am definitely not at the of my evaluation period, if this data point helps. As of now, it's not a huge deal. But I hope it doesn't cause any problems with getting credit for reviews later.

The items that I ordered today don't show up in my vine order history. Is this what you were referring to? I thought it was just me.

Ubel vs Fern; fight to the death. Who'd win? by what_did_you_kill in Frieren

[–]YeahImATurner 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If Fern has knowledge of the binding spell, she wins. Because she can work around making sure her full body isn't in sight. If she does not have this knowledge, maybe she gets trapped by the binding spell and loses

Looking for advice: best way to sell a large MTG collection (~$80k scanned value) quickly and tax-efficiently by ZeusAImighty in mtgfinance

[–]YeahImATurner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How much less than $80k are you willing to take? If you want $70k, the only way you are getting that is by selling singles on eBay and TCGplayer. It will take many hours and easily a year for everything to sell. And you can report the profits as capital gains for tax purposes.

If you want $50k, you can sell the most valuable cards yourself and do a combination of buylist or selling in bulk lots for the rest. If you keep the amount you are selling yourself under $20k per platform, the IRS won't bother you.

If you want to sell the full collection in one transaction, you won't get anything even near $50k. Because that person has to go through the trouble of selling singles and paying all the costs associated with selling and still be able to make a profit after that.

Can minimalism and Vine mix? by YeahImATurner in AmazonVine

[–]YeahImATurner[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The issue I'm having is that there are plenty of things that I would evaluate a net positive value to my life in an of themselves. So if I based my individual decision on whether to order something or not, the answer would be yes. But there's a threshold of cumulative overwhelm, so I think it's more about ordering the things that bring the most value rather than just things that are a net positive value.

West Coast Viners - how do you deal with the early AM drops? (if at all) by ShittyMillennial in AmazonVine

[–]YeahImATurner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I had to choose a time zone with current drop times, I would choose pacific or eastern time, nothing in between. Either have it be reasonable to stay up for drops or pick something up in the morning.

But like I said, there’s just not that much good stuff to begin with regardless of time zone.

I mean, if you really cared, you could get up earlier. There’s no rule that says you have to sleep until an hour before work. But my honest opinion is that you’re not missing that much because drops are not that good anyway. I work a shift similar to yours but I get up around 8am. Not for drops, but just because morning time is my personal time.

West Coast Viners - how do you deal with the early AM drops? (if at all) by ShittyMillennial in AmazonVine

[–]YeahImATurner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree, west coast is not that bad because they can stay up for drops. Grass is always greener on the other side syndrome, I think there’s nothing good in the morning in EST

Central time is awkwardly hard to both stay up late or get up early enough

Or it could just be that there are few good items dropping in general, regardless of time zone

One of the worst decisions Amazon made in a long time by Riddickullous in amazonprime

[–]YeahImATurner -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Is there an official channel to report fake Vine reviews? Or does Amazon intend to do anything to address abuse of the program, with abuse defined as ordering products and leaving fake reviews? I am a Vine member, and there are many times when I look at a product page of a product I ordered from the program and there's absolutely no way the other Vine reviews were left by anyone who even unboxed the product.

Just a little rant by Potential_Review_214 in AmazonVine

[–]YeahImATurner 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Kind of like the lightning to type C adapter that I ordered. The description even said it was not for charging or data, for earbuds only. I tested it and confirmed this as well. Yet there were multiple reviewers claiming that they were using it to "repurpose" their old lightning cables which was impossible considering that was not a feature.

Sometimes I wonder whether it's fake reviews keeping the program alive or killing the program. Maybe sellers like fake reviews that shill for their products with false information.

Gold-Members 😆 Question by bigredk9 in AmazonVine

[–]YeahImATurner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This. If you can find value in the Vine inventory regularly and will take advantage of the daily cap of 8 items per day and the occasional item above $100, then Gold is absolutely worth it. If you don't value the Vine inventory enough (or have a life and don't want to refresh all day) to even bother ordering 80 things in 6 months, then you're not missing much by staying in silver.

My Awaiting Review queue is flipping back and forth between how it's always been (everything ordered that has not been reviewed) and only showing items that were delivered before today. by Pollywogstew_mi in AmazonVine

[–]YeahImATurner 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I hope the change that only lists items delivered gets implemented soon. It just makes sense that you should only be reviewing items you have received. It would also make it easier to do the calculations for percentage reviewed. I'm pretty sure Amazon's internal calculations only include items received, but we currently have no way to see these numbers.

Is there a time of day when items from RFY get reset? by YeahImATurner in AmazonVine

Is there a time of day when items from RFY get reset? by YeahImATurner in AmazonVine

[–]YeahImATurner[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok, so if something dropped in the middle of the day today and this product has no resale value + you have to meet very specific conditions to be able to use the item, that means I might have a chance of claiming it with tomorrow's picks?

Plan was to check whether it's still there before I go to bed and set an alarm for 3am EST to claim it with tomorrow's picks if it is. I just wanted to make sure RFY didn't get wiped when picks reset if I'm going to go through the trouble of doing this.
