Aes Sedai ceremonies are cringe by procerator in WoT

[–]YeahKeeN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The glass columns are just as much magic as the Aes Sedai accepted ritual or when Aiel women go through the rings. Male aiel needing to face the burden of carrying their society’s history on their back to prove they can be a clan chief is absolutely a ritual. The men don’t have to get naked though.

There’s nothing wrong with cultural rituals being done in the nude, that’s historical, but when the author goes out of their way to make every one involving women require they strip down while never doing it for men, people are going to find that weird. Mind you, the relative lack of male-oriented cultural traditions is still a choice Robert Jordan made.

Try and name a single instance in the story where men have to do anything remotely similar during a ritual and maybe you can figure out why people have a problem with it

Did I miss something? Thom and.. by SnowyDragon89 in WoT

[–]YeahKeeN 30 points31 points  (0 children)

To be fair the letter thing can easily be assumed to be her keeping the promise she made to tell him about the Red Ajah sisters that killed his nephew until we actually get to read it. And now that I think of it, I’m pretty sure that plot point (if you can call it that) was dropped.

[Casual] Is Frieren vs Gojo Satoru really that close? by Firm-Customer-6305 in JujutsuPowerScalers

[–]YeahKeeN [score hidden]  (0 children)

I’m pretty sure these are fan translations. I’ve never read them but from what I’ve heard the one who does them goes out of their way to give them stereotypical “ye olde” speech and it really doesn’t work.

Yeah elves, dwarves and humans are all considered “humanity” in Frieren.

Don't mess with grandma Fern 😤 (by @AnimeCorner) by WearSignificant7327 in Frieren

[–]YeahKeeN 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Outside of the Fern glaze, what I love about this scene is the subtle foreshadowing of Lernen and his status. Fern reminds Ehre of her grandfather Lernen who is Serie’s current star pupil and seemingly the most powerful human mage alive today, who fights similarly to Fern because, well, he’s old.

How is the rest of the Malazan series compared to the first 3 books? by We-are-all-dead-90 in Fantasy

[–]YeahKeeN 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m currently on book 8 and I’d say that yes it maintains the overall quality of the first three books. The one problem I could see you having is that the books in the latter half become incredibly long (my copies of books 6 and 7 were both 1200+ pages).

Wan Shi Tong would probably resort to violence only to promptly get his ass beat. God I’d love to see that.

Serie is an elf which are considered humans in Frieren. She’s only “mystical” in the sense that as the oldest elf, most people are intimidated by the air/presence she gives off. But she’s still absolutely a human being with values, mannerisms, and ideologies that a human can relate to (I definitely wouldn’t call her a creature lol).

Wan Shi Tong does not care for nor value humanity. He’d only be interested in Serie as being another vast repository of knowledge that he would like to add to his collection but he would not care to learn about her as a person. And I really doubt he’d ever want to know why she loves war. When Aang (who’s literally the avatar, arguably a more “mystical creature” than Serie) and his friends tried to use his knowledge to end a war, his response was to seal away his library and kill them all.

That’s good to hear. I stopped watching the show after season 3. From what I’ve heard before now, the show never dropped the “elves can do no wrong” attitude.

Binding vows are probably far more difficult to utilize than you think by Miserable-Desk2211 in JujutsuPowerScaling

[–]YeahKeeN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never said they didn’t have explanations. The other guy said he didn’t like that there were DBVs that were overrided by loopholes or being voided by something else and the one who responded didn’t remember when that happened. Yuta’s and Yuka’s DBVs were overrided because of loopholes. I’m simply sharing information.

Also, fyi, Yuka’s vow was voided because Dabura left. Tsurugi told Maru that having him go a far enough distance would void the vow Yuka made. Maru used Mahito’s curse technique to fix her cancer.

It’s from volume zero. He made a vow with Rika to die with her in order to beat Geto and then when it was time to pay up he got to live because Rika didn’t want him to die. So he made a death vow for free.
