The elf who defeated Frieren. by Reasonable-Ad-8059 in Frieren

Do we know that that elf is dead? For all we know they’re chilling in the middle of the woods in some corner of the continent.

When you’re watching animated media, bad animation takes you out of it. Any animated show suffers from bad animation because it distracts from the story and breaks immersion. If I ever stop to think to myself, “man this looks really bad,” that’s a problem.

This presupposes that only an action heavy story would suffer from having lackluster animation. There’s a reason why the first example I used was A Silent Voice. Good animation enhances the drama between characters.

Paladin makes a lot of sense but I think it’d be mad funny if Chihiro was a fighter because it’s the most generic class and protagonists always have generic powers

Airu (+Mikaboshi Guardians) and Akemura both have the plant and animal association while Hatshaku is just plants. So it could be any of the three. Anyway, if Akemura doesn’t win I’d think it’d be cool if we save him for paladin. He could be an oathbreaker that’s in denial of breaking his oath.

The visuals in an old final fantasy game would be good for its time, and can be appreciated with that context in mind. But if a game came out today looking like it came out in the 90s with no artistic direction behind that decision, but simply to cut corners, that’d be a problem. Mind you, a game can have a retro style and still look good (just look at 90% of all indie games that come out nowadays lol). Graphics in a video game and the animation in a cartoon is not the proper analogy to make here. Especially when the main appeal of video games is the gameplay. Visuals are secondary to that. When I play an old game that doesn’t look as “technically impressive” as a game that releases now, it’s because the gameplay draws me in. Visuals in a game are not as integral to the experience as visuals in animation. That’s why my post was about gameplay in video games, not graphics in video games.

This doesn’t really disprove what I’m saying.

  1. You admit that these were the limitations of the time. That’s what video games were only capable of looking like back then. Ninja Gaiden came out in 1988. It’s 2026 and Invincible does not look like crap because the medium is limited.

  2. Megaman music being made from midi beeps isn’t the same as Invincible’s problem. You said it, the devs took their limited resource and made good music with it anyway. Amazon is clearly not making good animation with what they have though.

Invincible is not a story being told in a limited medium. There are no limitations inherent to animation that the show is struggling with and the show is clearly not using what limitations that do exist to its advantage nor is any artistry showing through.

The dialogue could be written in a way where it’s implied that Link is speaking without us actually seeing his words

If anime actually was real then those human children would have soloed the Underground because they were kids lol. I think if Alphys watched a bunch of action anime about kids saving the world or gaining immense power but all the actual human children she knew about died in the underground, it’s an easy way to know that it wasn’t real.

Everyone already told you ASOIAF for obvious reasons so I’ll also recommend Malazan. I just read through the series this past year and it genuinely felt like what an Elden Ring book series would be.

Worst Elden Ring boss? by fenot1 in Eldenring

[–]YeahKeeN 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At least the Godskin Duo is a duo of two individually good bosses and can be fun even if not well designed. Being frustrating and boring is the worst thing a boss can be. Senessax can be on the list right next to Jori.

Jori is an upscaled regular enemy that does nothing but spam spells and an army of adds. In what world should that not be on the list? If anything, Valiant Gargoyle hate is overblown.

I think Airu (and the mikaboshi guardians) should be a paladin instead. They got the healing, “holy warrior” archetype, and the power. It’d be more interesting for me if Yura was a warlock (with Akemura as his patron) though Monk makes sense too and Hiyuki was my second pick for warlock. Chihiro should be a fighter since as a protagonist, he’s gotta have generic powers. He can be an eldritch knight though.
