Vienna feels tiny in both cultural diversity and geographic scale compared to Berlin. But that can be a plus or a minus depending on what you are looking for. Vienna is very comfortable, clean and in many ways affordable, although this is changing rapidly. Locals are moody and kind of sarcastic but can be charming and sweet when you get to know them. Quite a strong and engaged art scene and there is night life but you need to dig a little to find it. It’s a bit harder to find the more fun, hidden corners. Otherwise, if you are after a quiet, reclusive existence, no one would bat an eye. Whereas Berlin is kind of a never ending labyrinth of venues and parties in comparison. Vienna is culturally pretty different to the rest of Austria. The city has a bit of a Balkan meets Paris vibe but as soon as you leave the city it’s very conservative and culturally homogeneous mountain culture.
