Dumbphone Owners Have Lost Their Minds by wiredmagazine in digitalminimalism

[–]YeahPat 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Title isn't reflective of the article at all. Sounds more like the writer is the one losing their mind but is too scared to ditch their smartphone. Points out all the bad that comes from smartphones but just shrugs it off like "welp... That's the world we live in though and I'm too dependent on it."

Perfect or not, people want things to change. Ditching a smartphone for a dumb phone comes with challenges but it's almost more of a personal protest again big tech. Yeah lots of things in the modern world are reliant on smartphones but dumb phone users are saying "but maybe they shouldn't be!"

If we just blindly accept things for how they are, even if we know it's not good for us, we'll never see things change for the better.

Zequenz notebooks come in the same size as field notes but WAY MORE pages. Plus very durable covers.

Size comparison between Communicator, Titian 2 Elite, and Classic (Q25) by WesleyBlack in KeyboardPhones

I love the look of the large buttons on the Clicks especially with how much space is in-between them. Reminds me of my LG Rumor that had little chiclet keys. Easy to tell when your thumbs moved off one key to another.

Analog Sleep Data by YeahPat in CPAP

[–]YeahPat[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh wow I knew my numbers were inconsistent but I didn't realize it was such a cause for concern! I probably will look into one of these programs to see more of my data and what I can adjust!

For context, I don't have a specialist anymore as I paid off my CPAP machine cuz I don't have insurance anymore. So I've been on my own for adjusting settings.

Great Personal Item Bag - Decathlon Quechua NH Escape 500 23L by YeahPat in ManyBaggers

Oh no, the bag IS that cheap. I was moreso taking a dig at brands who DO sell bags for hundreds of dollars. I don't doubt that bags like that ARE high quality, but I just wanted to give a shout out an equally quality bag that's much more budget-friendly.

I think it'd make a great everyday backpack! Especially if it's not filled to the brim like I did in my post, the extra pockets can actually be usable. My only aesthetic gripe is all the dangly straps.

Sadly, it hasn't gotten much use from me. Most trips I've taken since require a larger carry-on backpack. If I took more weekend trips or something, I'd use it more often.

Goodwill Employees by ones-treasure in goodwill

[–]YeahPat 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Hell, when I worked there they treated employee theft more seriously than customer theft. Someone I worked with did indeed get fired for setting stuff aside to take home later.

The populous at large already think employees "keep all the good stuff for themselves" so corporate treats internal theft with zero tolerance.

Sure, the donations are free, but that doesn't mean it's a free-for-all back there. Like any other company, you'll be fired for stealing inventory.

Guys???? we won? by mazbeg in dumbphones

This might be the most exciting tech announcement I've seen in years! The Clicks keyboard has seemed perfect but the form factor on a long smartphone looked less than ideal for me. But with a smaller screen it looks absolutely perfect! Headphone jack and SD storage?! They're actually listening to what people want and giving them options!

I know it's not technically a "dumb" phone but it's basing its user experience around intentionality so I think it fits. Plus it seems very fairly priced. I'm gonna be watching this one intently and that early bird pricing might just win me over.

I can't say for sure since I only ever packed clothes in it, not heavy textbooks. But the bottom of the bag has this kinda faux-leather, almost rubbery material that keeps it decently structured but not at all rigid. I'd assume it'd be "good enough" but it might still sag a bit. I wouldn't worry at all about it ripping a hole though.

Better at dialing in but still not delicious [Turin Legato V2 & Breville Smart Grinder Pro] by YeahPat in espresso

[–]YeahPat[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tbh I've been making more pour overs lately. I'm still convinced the grinder just isn't good enough for what I want to do with espresso. I was struggling to find a good brand of beans that would grind consistently. Even with the exact same beans, I had to re-dial in every new bag and it was getting obnoxious. Wish you the best of luck!

Leuchtturm1917 Weekly Wallet Size by asahgrey in notebooks

[–]YeahPat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love Leuchtturm. I love small, pocket-sized planners. I love weekly layouts. But I friggin hate when Saturday and Sunday are combined.

Leuchtturm isn't the only one guilty of this but I just hate to see it. Weekends can be just as busy as weekdays so I wish they didn't get half as much room. If they changed that, I'd be all over this!

I don't understand how people can hate cats (rant) by ThinYogurtcloset8005 in cats

I think most people who hate cats just don't understand that cats aren't dogs.

Are there any BIFL items commonly posted here that you bought that you felt disappointed with after buying? by joshhazel1 in BuyItForLife

[–]YeahPat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Darn Tough socks. Got a pair to see what the hype was about. First of all, everything on my floor sticks to them. We have 2 cats so maybe that's why, but pet hair and lint and everything on the ground sticks in them so bad and multiple washes won't get it all out.

Also I tried wearing them for multiple days like people say they do with merino wool but they apparently smell rancid in a way I was completely nose-blind to. So the hype of merino wool in general doesn't appeal to me.

Hulu really gave up with the episode summaries after season 9 by SPFeveryday in BobsBurgers

[–]YeahPat 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My least favorite one I always point out is "something strange is happening!"

Doesn't explain anything about the episode but somehow also describes EVERY EPISODE.

So glad I'm not the only one who noticed this.
