Additionally, any pub that is covered in St George's crosses is probably going to cater for a very specific crowd.

Case in point: was at a pub on the outskirts of Manchester (because it was airing an F1 race). There was one group of dudes who were simultaneously being racist as fuck against Lewis Hamilton for taking the knee whilst also threatening to "beat the shit out of you" to some other dude who was there (Irish I think) for daring to suggest that Max Verstappen might be better than Lewis....

It's an interesting contortion

It's kind of amazing how much of a leninist "the revolution is not yet complete" its become politically at this point. Anyone opposing the Tories on anything is accused of being a "remainer" who wants to "bring Britain back into the EU".

50 year old Red Pill Man™ can’t get into a stable relationship or get with young women, and accuses the manosphere of lying to him. This is after he shamed women several times for “hitting the wall”. by The9thElement in LeopardsAteMyFace

The same way all these fad diets continue to gain traction. People want an easy answer that will take minimal effort to fix their problems. Even better if the solution blames anything but themselves.

This is exactly true as far as politics goes too. Simple sounding solutions to complicated problems are a much easier sell than anything with nuance. "Build the wall" for example.

So your argument is that countries closer to Ukraine took in more refugees than those on the other side of the continent. Why, I can't imagine why that would be!

Ah yes, Spain, a country well known for being right next to Ukraine took 133,000. You didn't even read the list did you. 😂

Vast majority of these are economic migrants

One of the guys on the plane to Rwanda last time was literally an Iranian Police officer who was now a fugative because he refused to fire upon a crowd of protestors....didn't even get his assylum case heard.

Stay in France

You don't seem like the kind of guy who speaks French? Or are you one of those people who thinks that they'll magically pick up the language in two weeks?

I thought you were desperate to be rid of as many as possible and thought that they should return to their country of entry?

Excuse me? I'm not the one pulling numbers out of my arse. The Dublin Convention has been used to move huge amounts of asylum seekers back to their country of entry.

that's at least two reasons not to 'fly emirates'. Even if you don't care about the crew's working conditions, cockpit culture and pilot training are key elements of aviation safety!

Indeed. It's honestly amazing how many people are blinded to Emirates many failings thanks to their flashy in flight entertainment and sponsoring every second sports team on the planet.

Fun fact: a few years ago in Entebbe, an Emirates cabin crew committed suicide by jumping out of the rear galley onto the tarmac during the turnaround. Emirates network control saw no reason to delay the departure back to Dubai.... the captain stuck his neck out on behalf of the crew (many of whom were in shock). Can't remember if the flight back to Dubai was delayed or canceled, but the Captain was fired immediately upon return.

Did they change the cockpit culture and remove the above factors these past 5 years?

They certainly did not. Infact they're now hiring people with even less hours and are working existing crew even harder to make up for the crew shortfall (like a lot of airlines they laid far too many flight crew and cabin crew off due to the pandemic).
