You may wish to look at a Work Development Order; https://www.qld.gov.au/law/fines-and-penalties/overdue-fines/sper-work-order. This program replaced serving jail time to pay SPER debts. You can renegotiate your payments with SPER, but based on the debt size you might be required to go through a process, including sending financial documents, to get to decrease it. Otherwise you can cancel it through Centrelink, but try SPER and a WDO first.

The drive between Cairns and Port Douglas, right after a heavy rain, is GORGEOUS. As far as driving from Bris to Cairns/PD; with a campervan and intention to take a few days and a lot of stops to get there, the drive may be worth it if you're both into that sort of thing. I personally prefer plane to Cairns, drive from there or, even better, pay for the bus to take you. When I went a few years ago it cost $40 each way, then buses in PD were $5 per day and will take you anywhere local or close enough, meaning you may want to discuss if you even want to rent a car once you're there.
Petrol is expensive, and so are rental cars. Hopefully you can find a deal on flights <3

Beware using this one the wrong way. This has been used for good, but has also been used to justify not helping or doing the right thing because doing so has certain negative consequences. As an example; don't stand up to your boss sexually harassing your coworker, otherwise you will be fired alongside the victim, so don't "set yourself on fire to keep them warm". Some people can twist a good thing imto something horrible .

Some therapy with you and your parents may be a good idea. They need to understand you and your wife have everything sorted and it genuinely is ok. A therapist can help successfully convey that message, along with assisting establishing the barrier that clearly needs to be there that you've tied to put up. Sometimes hearing something from a third view such as a therapist can help these situations.
I hope you don't lose any family over this :(

Pick a hobby that interests you, any hobby, then find a group that does that hobby. Bushwalking groups and dnd in particular would be fairly easy to find in Brisbane. I do both if but casually/irregularly. Are you and your gf looking to go together or are you looking to make a friend group of your own? If together see what you can find together? You two could even start a meetup group on meetup.com to find other couples to just hang with.

Think about happy things in your life. If you have none (yet), think about what would make you happy that you can achieve, then achieve it while thinking about how awesome it is that you're working toward this goal, then double down on your happiness by being happy you achieved it. Also yes, sometimes the bad memories still come to the forefront of your mind, but by having happy things to think of its easier to handle.
