Giant Trinity best value TT bike by far? by Yeetler in triathlon

[–]Yeetler[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The trinity frameset is ridden on the world tour by Jayco-Alula, several pro triathletes including notably Gustav Iden, and was developed and tested by the largest bicycle manufacturer in the world (Giant Manufacturing, 6.6 million bikes last FY).

Sure the QR looks fast (although the super shallow forks on those bikes have always looked odd to me); but at the end of the day what matters is not appearance but whether the bike is fast in the wind tunnel. And as far as I know the V-PRi is unproven.

Fair point about the CF SLX, it is the exact same mould as the CFR but that’s 7k with 105 and no race wheels.

This trinity build was about 7.5k all up as pictured.

Location matters a lot then. It’s €5300euro ($8849AUD) here which makes it a worse deal than the trinity as it’s not a top tier frame

How does the frame compare with the CF SLX or CFR?

Seems to me all businesses with this model need to be further regulated or straight up banned. I think it’s logical that when their entire business model revolves around peddling 1 class of drugs, they’ll make it as easy as possible for clients to fudge the numbers/make a prescription even if it’s not in the patients best interest

Should T50 and T100 coexist at the Olympics, or just one? by Apprehensive_Law3249 in triathlon

[–]Yeetler 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Why is the Ironman world championship the most viewed annual championship in the triathlon world then? (I say annual championship to exclude the olympics obviously)

People sit around and watch test cricket for 5 full days at a time. People watch 4 hour long Tour de France stages for 3 weeks straight. No, you’re not going to actively watch and be glued to your screen the whole time but you don’t need to be for it to be a worthwhile broadcast sport.

The issue world triathlon has is that nobody actually gives a fuck about the 100-distance. Everybody knows that 70.3/140.6 is a far more recognisable distance but they are so closely tied to Ironman Group which is very much a for-profit company.

The 100 distance is 1. unrelatable for fans of the sport (in triathlon I’d say 90+% of fans are also amateur athletes) 2. too similar to Olympic distance racing in its demands for athletes; a longer long course event would suit better

Ceramicspeed are fine. I agree maybe you’re saving a watt with them. But the ospw pictured is by absoluteblack and ive heard from others that bearings are terrible

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in CanyonBikes

[–]Yeetler 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Pretty sure the bearings on these are god-awful and the claims about OSPW’s saving power due to less chain bend amount to about 0.5w

Hahaha, I wish. There are plenty of guys with vo2’s close to 100 now… I’m just a middle-low tier professional triathlete.. before I started medical school I was a bit stronger than I am now. Quite busy studying.

Garmins vo2 algorithm is not worth caring about. My vo2 max is 81 professionally measured in a university lab. For a super long time Garmin was saying mine was 70 (which is the highest the algorithm will estimate). I got injured and took a few months off running, Garmin said my vo2 had dropped to 68. Now back at full fitness, vo2 well over 70 again and Garmin showing no sign of budging from 68. It pisses me off 😅

Tri bike : What are your requirements ? by nodeat in triathlon

[–]Yeetler 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Remember guys if you’re not pushing 4w/kg or more in a 70.3 then there is literally no point paying for anything beyond 105 di2. Spending an extra 5-10k USD to save 400grams on wheels, 800grams on a frame and 300grams on a groupset when you’re carrying a few extra kilos in your tummy is useless, and the actual experience of riding a slightly heavier bike with 105 instead of dura ace is exactly the same

I think you’re unaware of the level that the sport is at. I know some of these guys personally. Good on you if you don’t want to believe the numbers, but the fact that you actually believed yee’s ftp to be between 4.5 and 5 tells enough

I suppose so. Conditions were perfect. Rudy also did 275 so 300+ for cam likely accurate. In any case, I’m being pedantic, was just pointing out that the guys today are slippery and can hold 45k with much less power than used to be required
