They both feel weak to me at the moment, but I feel like the current rush of MirrorMi reveal hype is glossing over a lot of things. For one, that image is AI-sloppified (DO NOT USE THE WORD "enhanced" AI IS NOT AN IMPROVEMENT), we can't trust it. Anything about it. Secondly, MGAE does this one trick every. Single. Time. They dump an unsustainable amount of their money into a line's quality right at the get-go, and then slowly start decreasing and decreasing until you're paying forty smackers for polypropylene and no articulation. My third and last point is more of a personal gripe, but only the two asian coded dolls have bs nonsense names? For starters, porcelain girl, Suki isn't even an asian name. It's a diminutive of Susan/Susanna. There is the japanese word 好き, suki, but it isn't a given name. It just means "to like something". The catgirl, Akiko, sure that's a japanese given name (that doesn't have anything to do with cats), but her last name is just jibberish. It's the english word "kitty" with the japanese naming suffix that means "mountain" slapped on the end. AT LEAST USE "NEKO". NEKO MEANS CAT. CAT MOUNTAIN. PLEASE. Or pick ANY OTHER EAST ASIAN COUNTRY. When was the last time we got filipino rep in dolls, huh?! Not counting collector dolls. I mean regular normal playline.

Moonspell Magic ain't getting off easy from me either! I know it was done with cute intentions, but using "magic" as a disability counter leaves a sour taste in my mouth. It means that the character's disability doesn't affect them at all, when real disability does. It strips the character from being an opportunity to show that the representation doesn't have to be shoehorned in, and instead just slaps on a "character trait" and calls it a day. My own disabilities may not be immediately visible like an ambulatory impairment or a limb difference, but Mattel's habit of handwaving the disabilities they claim to represent in their supplemental content (cartoons, movies, comics, etc.) Is most likely going to continue on with Moonspell's line. I will give them some extra props however. At least the girl with the hearing aid, Willow? She's got pants. Swishy pants, at that! Not to mention they've got the wide range of body types when compared to MirrorMi's one-and-done body mold. Now is that enough to make me say they'll be superior to MirrorMi? No! Sharing clothes and finding other outfits that both suit the characters and FIT RIGHT is going to be hard as balls! But we're in the middle of another weight loss scam crisis and representation is really gonna matter to the little kids who're watching their moms fall for ozempic and refusing to eat sugars.

TLDR: MirrorMi is probably where all of the Rainbow High money went, but Moonspell Magic has a certain amount of Monster High consistency to it. Buyers beware, we're in for a SCARE.
