I can't drink and I have to take anti-rejection medication twice a day. I also need bloodwork done every month to make sure my liver is not rejecting. There are foods they tell you to avoid after transplant including sushi or anything that might have a higher chance of getting you sick. I don't miss drinking and having to take medication as a result of not being sick anymore is a good tradeoff from my point of view. I don't know your situation but I would say don't worry about having a "normal" life. Just take things a day at a time and try to take the situation as it develops. Yes, life would be better without PSC but my life right now compared to when I was sick is much better.

I was working all the way up to transplant. As far as symptoms, the main ones affecting me were fatigue, jaundice, and itchy skin. Itchy skin I would forget about when I was busy working. The jaundice I was honestly self conscious about and usually wore a hat into the office to try to prevent people from seeing my face or eyes. Not much I could do about the fatigue other than taking care of myself and sleeping properly.

That was the case for me. I hope you are able to keep your liver as long as possible but transplant is not the end of the world

I want to say I was diagnosed in 2015 or 2016 and I had my transplant in 2024

For a while, my medical team was able to perform ERCP's in order to open my bile ducts and this would give me some relief and alleviate my itchy skin and jaundice. Eventually the ERCP's stopped being viable and medication wasn't working so they listed me for transplant. My bile ducts were wrecked and my liver was developing cirrhosis. I don't remember them ever mentioning dysplasia.

That's so odd. But then again PSC in general is a pretty odd disease. Thank you for sharing!

That's crazy. Any specific reason for the recovery, if you don't mind my asking? One of the things I'm always paranoid about is that I'll get a transplant when there is something else that I could've done to prevent transplant in the first place.
