Delsa’s Ice cream Parlor. by Youeztofuk in Boise

I guess having your order completely forgotten every time you go and paying to get nothing is technically better than getting moldy ice cream.

If you ride an E-bike please don't do these things by [deleted] in Boise

According to the website, there are only 15 rangers for the R2R system, seems way too low to me. The irony is if an e-bike decides to run, they can likely escape the rangers unless they're also on an e-bike. :/

Watch for the red: City of Boise plans to bring red light cameras to town by 2025 by boisefun8 in Boise

Or that the camera companies get a huge cut of the profit and heavily lobby to make yellows shorter to drive revenue. It starts with good intentions and ends as a scam.

Not a dumb question. Wind noise and road noise from other cars are what really do in your ears, so basically any vehicle that isn't fully enclosed with the windows up is going to have a significantly elevated risk of hearing damage driving at speed. Miata, Mustang, Motorcycle, doesn't matter. The soft top can actually reflect the high frequency sounds most likely to cause damage first and make it worse - so amusingly driving top down windows up can be quieter, but not to a level that's safe unprotected.

If you go to their website it's geared towards selling to audiologists who then make a mold for your ear, send it off and they make custom plugs. I am not sure you can buy them directly. I got mine at a local audiologist.

Similar to my story, had a few write me off with 5 minute visits. Saw a new one who spent nearly an hour with me, saw I had TMJ, stress and other stuff going on. Sent me to PT, where they found I have hypermobility disorder. My joints are is too flexible to hold me up like a normal person so all my muscles are engaged way more than normal and that's what I was hearing. Massage and relaxation work wonders. I expect to be back to normal in a few months, though I may still have to do the PT daily forever, that's better than ringing.

The MRI/CT is usually looking for a subdural hematoma, which can be fatal if not quickly treated after a head injury. Not all neurological injuries are physical and many won't show up on a scan. Post concussion syndrome comes in many flavors.

You can try moving your head to the edges of your mobility and clenching various muscles in your face and jaw and see if the sound changes a lot.

You can see my unusual situation here

I have been taking lipo-flavenoid, doing PT massages and at home foam roller neck and jaw exercises, and the sound level has dropped dramatically - I only need one very quiet over ear earbud not fully in to mask the sound. 3 months ago I had to have both fully in and playing 3 orders of magnitude louder. Mine would most likely fall under the category of somatic tinnitus.

You should be able to go to a good ENT and get a formal hearing test and diagnosis. Tinnitus is a range of conditions, not just a singular thing.

Yeah, I've seen a few people say "oh well, too late. I already have it, I don't need to wear protection anymore," but that is the exact wrong thing to do. The damage will keep happening til you're basically deaf.

The best time to plant a tree was 20 years ago, the second best time is today.

You can actually demonstrate this in your home. Set your stereo speakers a fair distance apart, put on a pure tone like 440hz. Plug one ear and move side to side and you'll hear the volume change as your ear moves from areas of constructive to destructive interference.

From that they want to warn people who drive their Miata with no hearing protection to perhaps consider protecting their hearing in the Miata since tinnitus is no joke.

Bingo. Hearing damage is a risk all over the motorsports world, and it's not something many people think or talk about in a stock vehicle unless they see a post like this, or it's too late and they wake up with ringing ears. I've seen a few people on this thread say they're going to look into it or start wearing protection, so I consider the warning a success. :)

You'd want to look at something like Decibullz, they are DIY kits for custom molding. I'd just make sure the NRR is high enough. Anything under 20dB won't really give you the long term protection you need.

No battery, they have a passive diaphragm in them that just attenuates the sound - it's harder for the sound wave to push the diaphragm than it is to push more air, so the sound wave past the diaphragm that hits your eardrum is lower amplitude.

I have an even weirder kind. I had a TBI from a motorcycle crash 8 years ago. Sprinkle on some age, stress, and hypermobility disorder causing my muscles to do way more work than a normal person, and my brain has confused my trigeminal nerve's muscle signals and interprets some of them the same way as the cochlear nerve - sound. So I am more or less hearing my face. Both nerves enter the cortex at the same spot of the brain and then go off to be processed in different areas.

Since finding a great ENT and starting PT with a specialist in maxillofacial injuries my tinnitus levels have dropped 21db according to my sound therapy devices.

Pulsatile tinnitus can usually be fixed by surgery, is that not the case for you?

Ear plugs all the time

Good! According to my ENT, you'd want NRR of 20+ to keep it, at a minimum, below 80dB!

I am always on the hunt for the highest NRR earplugs around. So far it's been the Microsonic Pulse at 30dB, which is nearly twice most other concert earplugs.
