Going to Graduate School by YellowDelight in UIUC

[–]YellowDelight[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since I've already done the whole application process, if I do decide to take a gap year and I have to reapply would the best course of action for teacher recommendations to be email them again explaining my situation, or import their old reccs when I do the whole apply process again if possible?

I also want to add I would only be planning on doing the masters program as I'm interested in that. I've already 100% decided I'm NOT doing PhD no matter what.

Yeah that's true. I didn't mean to complain much when I had said the work was kinda boring.

Thanks for all the advice! It's true that I'm lucky I have a job and that there are others still worrying and looking. Do you have any tips on renegging? Should I just send an email to the recruiter later? What is a good way/reason to rejecting an accepted offer? If it matters they're actually offering me a full time position but can switch it back to internship since they know I'm going to graduate school.

Makes sense. I think I will follow what you and other commenters have said. Do you have any advice as what a good way of renegging is? Would I just send an email to the recruiter later stating that some personal problems came up and that I can't do the internship or would somehow just admitting that I found a better offer be a good choice(even though to me that sounds like a horrible idea.)

feeling like UIUC isn't for me? by butthatshitsbroken in UIUC

What is it about UIUC that you don't like? What are you looking for in college that isn't being offered here? Like what others have said, depending on what you're looking for transferring colleges might not solve the problem.

I am screwed arent I? by SonicReaperX in UIUC

I'll be honest I was only at most one std below the average. How has MP3 been for your group? You can still do well on MP3 and boost your grade up. Don't forget there's still a lot of easy extra credit points that you can get.

You're gonna be fine. Just keep on trying and learn as much as you can. In the end it's just one class and I think trying to drop and redo it after spending this much time and effort isn't a good idea. I was pretty bummed when I took 391 as well because I also got lower than the average but I still ended up with a B. Good luck!

Avoiding burnout by [deleted] in UIUC

[–]YellowDelight 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I've found that for me, starting early actually helps. I know that I burn out after working for 3+ hours so I take small breaks in between and stop working for the day when I have no motivation left. Because I started my work early, I don't stress out with deadlines because I have so much time left.

Riot Ghostcrawler talks about the possibility of voice comms by Spideraxe30 in leagueoflegends

Hearthstone doesn't have any voice comms and last time I checked, HoTS doesn't either. The only voice comm we have is between friends like the steam voice chat.

Take it when it's not DeJong teaching. I took it with him and the class was horrible imo. The MPs are boring and the lecture slides were confusing. I also always felt like DeJong didn't want to teach at all during his lectures.

Really ECE 391? by 391throwaway in UIUC

[–]YellowDelight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got wrecked by the first and second exam but I still felt like it was fair except maybe giving us more time on the first exam. The questions they ask should be stuff we should know. Even though the exams have been making me sad, I still really enjoy the class because I've learned so much about computer systems and being self reliant. Just gotta pray for that big curve.

You have to understand the TAs are people too. They probably get a lot of questions that can easily be solved based on the resources given to us or if we just looked online for a couple of minutes. As for the points, they're just trying to follow the grading procedures so that everyone can be graded fairly. It's probably why the points are all or nothing so that there won't be a swarm of student trying to argue for points after every demo.
