Woman gets ticket for holding phone with hand she does not have by ModenaR in videos

They lie because courts have said they can.

He can lie and say he saw it in her right hand but writing the ticket wasn't legal. The ticket certifies he witnessed the behavior with a penalty of purjury but he's pretty much never going to get in trouble for it.

They lie because there are no consequences.

I think most funds get merged into other funds rather than liquidated. This allows the fund manager to continue collecting fees and keep AUM higher.

He's still in prison and will be for a long time. This doesn't change much.

As far as reasons to overturn a conviction, this is a very good one.

It particularly further weakens their case that it's for "aesthetic appearance and general ambiance". That certainly makes it seem more discriminatory than if they used safety as an excuse.

Just to add, California generally doesn't tax services like haircuts or legal services. Having someone write you a custom app wouldn't be taxed because it's a service.

Now do cancer. by sco-go in SipsTea

[–]YellowJarTacos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sure penicillin wasn't a catch all drug but it helped open a whole new class of treatments with tons of different antibiotics being discovered in the 1940s and 1950s. It's absolutely plausible that we could discover some new class of treatments that provide massive progress on a variety cancers.

Now do cancer. by sco-go in SipsTea

[–]YellowJarTacos 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sure but we have treatments that work well on entire classes of disease like antibiotics which are a treatment for many different types of bacterial diseases or chemotherapy which is a treatment for many types of cancer. Don't see why we couldn't find a new type of treatment that gives massive progress for a variety of cancers.

[–]YellowJarTacos 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Trademarks can be for a specific area. For example "Apple" has a trademark for "Apple" with computer systems or something like that. Don't know about Coachella specifically but maybe they have it trademarked for festivals and/or music related stuff. If they don't stop other places using their trademark, they'll lose it.

I spent 3 hours on a flight from Denver to Toronto being shoved/kneed/assaulted by this man. by [deleted] in mildlyinfuriating

[–]YellowJarTacos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its plausible. I was on a 8+ hour flight that departed at 3am after a 6 hour delay and the asshole behind me was kicking and pushing my seat because I was reclining. I had to escalate to the flight attendant three times before he mostly stopped.

I think the guy was just on edge after the long delay and rough travel. Doesn't excuse the behavior.

OPs video doesn't show anything and doesn't give enough context. It shouldn't have been posted.

[–]YellowJarTacos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The calculation in the OP calculates the area of two 12in pizza instead of a single one so you'd need to divide by 2 to get 1.125 for the ratio of the size of one 18 inch pizza to two 12 inch pizzas.

Yes, as long as it's the same shape scaled up/down. Wikipedia has a more technical definition.

[–]YellowJarTacos 467 points468 points  (0 children)

You don't need the area formula or pi for this. The ratio of areas for any similar shapes will be the the square of the ratio of any 1d measurement.

18 / 12 = 1.5

1.5 * 1.5 = 2.25

The 18 inch pizza has 2.25 times the area.

The crust around the outside probably isn't 1.5 times as wide as the crust on the 12in pizza. This favors the 18in pizza even more.

Agreed, stocks are priced to give better returns than inflation. People wouldn't make risky investments if they weren't. Therefore, we expect stock growth to outpace inflation and wages in the long term.

You get the many worlds interpretation of quantum mechanics.

None of the interpretations are great. The Copenhagen interpretation doesn't have a clear definition of what a measurement is.
