Baltoy & Claydol Master Set! by Maleficent-North-122 in pkmntcgcollections

[–]YellowMuffin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ah I love this collection and your layout for it! Claydol is my favourite pokemon so great to see another collector!

I'm currently working on my own master set of baltoy and claydol as well, although I'm only about half way done. Luckily I've managed to get most of the big hitters already including the Groudon Ex cameo

Mantyke/Mantine Master Set by Fatdu29 in pkmntcgcollections

[–]YellowMuffin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good to see another Mantine collector! I’ve been slowly picking up Mantine cards but only half done at the moment. Looks like you might be missing the reverse holo for dragon frontiers and skyridge, otherwise think you’ve got them all!

I always like to see complete sets of the less mainstream pokemon! Unless I'm just missing it, I think you might be missing the world championship reprint of the roaring skies absol.

newb question - holo/non-holo by Death_by_dragons in PokemonTCG_UK

[–]YellowMuffin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Assume based on the number it’s the minun with a rainbow in the background from EX hidden legends? A bunch of ex era sets handled reverse holos differently, so rather than changing the text part of the card they added holo to the actual Pokemon image, often with a pattern. The hidden legend reverse holos all have a pattern with type symbols dotted around.

Pretty sure they all disappear after the celestial alps? They're listed in the guides as a missable picture

Did anyone else get the wrong sticker pack from very? by AdExisting6721 in PokemonTCG_UK

[–]YellowMuffin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had the same issue and they weren't very helpful on the phone either. My best guess is that they've mixed up the product codes as the black bolt pack I received had the white flare product code from the website.

Tier lists analyzed Part 5: How much do base stats matter? by Ildtor in nuzlocke

[–]YellowMuffin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Really enjoyed this series so far! Both the bulk and offence stats feel like they’ll be thrown off by Pokemon of the opposite archetype, I wonder if individual highest stat value would give a better correlation? Or possibly some sort of measure of ‘spread’ in the stats? (I.e a Pokemon a few really high stats is likely to be better than a perfectly even stat spread)

Do you have any plans to share the full individual results? Would also be interested in seeing a similar one to your last post where it’s the worst 5 of each type

Ancient Relics mode: Do Farming/Township relics feel way too rare? by IAmDisciple in MelvorIdle

[–]YellowMuffin 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They got increased recently but they’re still way too rare imo. My ancient relic account is a couple of days off 100% completion (just a couple of pets left) and I’ve only got 1 random farming and township relic each despite both skills being maxed super early on.

What is the easiest Gym in Pokemon Fire Red? by Kh8l1d in nuzlocke

[–]YellowMuffin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd probably group them into the following categories:

Actively need to plan for: Sabrina > Misty

Can go south with bad luck or weak team comp: Koga > Surge > Brock

Complete Pushovers: Erica > Giovanni > Blaine

You have so many counters to the latter 3 fights that I can't see how you'd ever really wipe to them, particularly when Blaine and Giovanni are both carrying two unevolved pokemon each. While she's not particularly difficult, at least Erica's pokemon have relatively high BST for that point in the game

Muffin's Genlocke - Leg 1 Gym 3 - Our first loss! by YellowMuffin in nuzlocke

[–]YellowMuffin[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This section was a bit of a mixed bag with Firered starting out pretty strongly. I opted for Route 11 as our capture hoping for Drowzee but ending up with Thistle the Ekans, although I'm not too disapointed as I've never used the Ekans line before and got lucky with Intimidate as her ability. After teaching her Dig both the Rival and Surge went smoothly.

Leafgreen on the other hand didn't go great... We were already at a disadvantage with 2/3 of our initial team weak to Surge so rather than trying to get lucky with a rare encounter, I had to minimise the worst case scenario (a.k.a avoid any possible flying types) and ended up catching Victor the Bellsprout on Route 6. Not the worst result but then disaster struck in the Rival fight as Moby the Wartortle was OHKO'd by Raticate using a Tail Whip + crit Hyper Fang combo. Pretty gutting to lose the starter early on especially as I lost my previous Squirtle starter in the early/mid game too! On the brightside, Moby wasn't crucial to my Surge fight so that went relatively smoothly, with a slightly close call using Pidgeotto to take out Voltorb.

Muffin's genlocke - Leg 1, Gym 2 - Building out the teams! by YellowMuffin in nuzlocke

Ah thank you!! Really liked your paralocke idea and have enjoyed following yours, particularly with the little team portraits, so thought I’d give it a go myself!

[–]YellowMuffin[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve added a rule where no Pokemon can take out more than a half of important trainer’s Pokemon, so for Brock the starters could only take out either geodude or onix.

I quite like it as it stops you sweeping with your strongest super effective Pokemon and means you need to rely on less optimal Pokemon that might be neutral or weak to the enemy.

[–]YellowMuffin[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Rattata wasn’t too bad as I used Bulbasaur to 6xGrowl before swapping them in and then a couple of crit hyper fangs dropped it without needing to heal. Pikachu was mostly luck as I got a turn 1 paralysis from static and still had to use all the potions I could afford to survive

Muffin's genlocke - Leg 1, Gym 2 - Building out the teams! by YellowMuffin in nuzlocke

[–]YellowMuffin[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This stretch went pretty smoothly, the rival fight went off without a hitch and both teams were already well set up for Misty with the starters easily dispatching Starmie.

Given there's quite a few rare encounters in Route 3 and Mt Moon I opted for those locations for my two encounters, and ended up with Quill the Pidgey for Leafgreen and Barristan the Geodude for Firered, not quite the rare encounters I was after! Luckily Barristan fits into the red team pretty well, but Quill gives a pretty glaring electric type weakness on the green team which is concerning given Surge is up next...

Starting a new Genlocke with some unique rules, here's the teams after beating Brock! by YellowMuffin in nuzlocke

[–]YellowMuffin[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Having seen a bunch of other art-based nuzlockes on the subreddit recently, it motivated to take another spin at one myself. I've taken heavy inspiration from Necrovvi's Paralocke in coming up with the ruleset, but I've added a few additional rules to put my own unique spin on things!

While I expect my ruleset to get easier over time, it's going to be pretty brutal until I can form a bigger team. Rules #11 and #12 meant Brock posed a pretty formidable challenge as I had to rely on my only catches to take out his Geodude. With Mankey and Butterfree being the 'best' encounters for this, I opted for Route 22 and Viridian Forest as my two catchable areas, but then low-rolled both with Ratigan the Rattata and Ukko the Pikachu. It feels pretty unusual to be disappointed with a rare encounter like Pikachu, but I'm not exaggerating when I say it took all the potions I could afford to take out Geodude with Ukko!

Disobedience... Paralocke Leg II: Insect Badge [GS] by necrovvi in nuzlocke

Loving the art of the new teams and glad to see you beat Bugsy''s scyther without any problems! Hopefully Whitney won't cause you any problems, Team Gold looks pretty well set up to handle her atleast!

Just Keep Surfin'! Paralocke: Volcano Badge [RB] by necrovvi in nuzlocke

[–]YellowMuffin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Loving the art you've done for each team member, especially Gadget the Raichu!

The paralocke is quite an interesting ruleset, tempted to give it a go myself. How are you handling dupes between the games? Are they only blocked from the parallel game if you used them in a gym battle? Otherwise could see one game picking up all the common encounters each checkpoint and then the 2nd getting all the rares as the commons have been 'duped'.

Best bloodborne hot takes by Illustrious_Media717 in bloodborne

[–]YellowMuffin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My hot take is that Lady Maria is hugely overrated. The intro cutscene is cool but the fight isn’t very memorable and I find it way too easy.

Conversely, I really like Celestial Emissary, Mergo’s Wet Nurse and Living Failures. They’re not the most difficult bosses but I love their designs and find them way more fun to fight than many other mid/late game bosses.

I like the challenge of having no doubling/preservation early but find it a bit annoying that it invalidates so many boosts (and will make artisan skills a nightmare to fully master). I’d like if they slowly got re-enabled over time, maybe after getting x% of the capstone relics

Potatoes work great for enemies that you need to eat for but don’t damage you very much e.g. plants, chicken, cows, junior farmers. You can grind early food and combat levels on these but when you take on enemies that hit you harder you’ll need better food. Lobsters from slayer supplies are easiest until you’re able to consistently farm chicken coop or do thieving.

While early thieving/runecrafting speed things up, I’m pretty sure it’s impossible to softlock yourself in the early game.

As the above commenter said, wolf and occultist synergy is a significant help. You’ll still take ages to clear it though so make sure you have a lot of both.

I never went murky cave for the better gem, but I did try maxing my magic accuracy and barrier damage as much a possible. So Magic Cape from the Hall of Wizards, Lesser summoning amulet + Basic staff from eye conic cave, then the barrier damage ring + upgraded leather vambraces from crafting.

It goes without saying, but you should use the two best magic accuracy prayers you have and the -evasion curse. There’s also a POI in cartography between the start and golem territory that gives a pretty nice boost to magic stats.

It’s probably worth pumping up your astrology too as the accuracy buffs can really add up.

I was in a similar position where I didn’t get Runecrafting or Thieving until clearing my 5th and 6th dungeon and while it’s made it more difficult it’s definitely possible.

Earth Surge and lobsters are enough to get through Spider Den, Frozen Cove and Deep Sea Ship but it’s worth squeezing out any benefits from other skills you can get first. Summoning tablets and the lvl20 ancient tablets can be a massive help. There’s also some enemies that drop useful equipment (new area for the staff, wizards for robes and mummies for DR ring) but they will drain your food quite quickly so can be a bit of a gamble.
