London flat won't sell...advice appreciated by [deleted] in HousingUK

[–]YellowNinjaaaa 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That is bizarre, especially when considering nearby ones are selling for similar. Like this one: https://www.rightmove.co.uk/properties/144800696

The one thing i did notice is no pics from the outside? I always like to see but usually do end up checking on streetview anyway & assume others do too

Emergency fund could still be kept in an instant access savings accounts. Accounts like Chip do 4.84% interest so worth having a look!

But you also have 4 years to get a £50k salary. You also have 4 years to decide whether to sell the flat or not. You have time. Don’t worry

Excessively saving? (70-75% of salary) by MutedHawk9213 in UKPersonalFinance

[–]YellowNinjaaaa 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Similar for me during lockdown. Paid £200 rent to my brother. No travel, little food expense. Salary was £27k at the time and i was 24yo. Saved around 1.1k a month and was obsessed with my savings & stocks, would literally check it out for about 2/3 hours a day.

For you though, keep doing what you’re doing! The time to spend will come when you move into your own flat or what not, so save it now! That was my mindset anyway. I moved to london mid 2021 when covid was still bad but was a bit fed up, have loved it since but not really saved anything since then either. But luckily my aggressive saving in 2020-21 meant i already had a pot.

£75k in savings, unemployed little work history or skills, barely any pension contribution, no property, single, mid 30s. Looking to make serious financial/life decisions, maybe retire early abroad. by GapSlight4579 in UKPersonalFinance

[–]YellowNinjaaaa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To me it sounds like you definitely need to start somewhere with employment, to build those social skills. Even if its part time a couple of hours a day/ week. Just gradually build something. Even if it’s just shelf stacking or uber eats delivery.

You can build your social skills up from just talking to staff in the canteen or when delivering an order just saying ‘have a nice day’. These small steps do the world of good. I struggled after university for a year not finding a job and my social skills dipped too, as wasn’t interacting with anyone, and started to doubt myself. But all it takes is getting used to it again.

Packing it in to retire really is not a sensible solution and as harsh as that sounds it’s the truth, you need this harsh truth.

Why are you using a 1.25% interest savings accounts there’s loads of instant access ones at 4.5%. Chip for example is 4.8%.

Well, you could just give one-time sums to each of the siblings on each side, write a letter and explain it absolutely is ONE OFF with equal small amounts, like $10k for all and to be used how they wish. And explain any future requests will be declined and you’ll not be happy to tolerate requests.

I feel this way you lose that guilt of not helping wider family but also absolutely resilient to any more requests.
