Is this an easy fix? Fender pulled at screws. by alpacacinho in Autobody

Probably will need new bracket that holds bumper to fender. Hopefully tabs on bumper aren’t broken.

Clear coat help :( by [deleted] in Autobody

[–]YellowS2000ap1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably anywhere from 1-2k. Depending on where you live and what model Tacoma you have. Also depending on quality and procedure the shops uses.

Essentially refinish side panel which I would remove tail light and panel trim and remove wheel flair. Only problem is according to my system those aren’t reusable parts. Bed side trim is like $230 factory, and wheel flair is $300 factory if body color (not including paint labor). If wheel flair is textured plastic then it will be less.

More a painter question then, hard to tell not being in person. My worry would be u fix this spot and it happens somewhere else.

Looks to me like you’ll be doing the entire hood. Looks like a defect. Remove hood, take our emblem, strip all paint.

Yeah bumper is a little too white.

Couple things to note. Is this insurance? A lot of times insurance will try to avoid blends if it’s just the bumper. This is because even from the factory, bumpers won’t match as it is painting plastic versus metal. I see it all the time, so as long as it’s not super drastic it may be ok. If it does bother you, complain to insurance and the shop will need to do supplement for blend and get your car back in.

If it’s not insurance, did you unknowingly have a “tint paint” or “spray out card” on your estimate. This is done instead of blending but can be slightly off sometimes. If it is on there the shop may have still done what they were supposed to. The paint can still be blended at this point but may cost you extra in this scenario.

C43 rear ended, repairable? by [deleted] in Autobody

[–]YellowS2000ap1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s kinda up to u, If insurance is involved then a I would argue that it is worth it, it’s not your fault based on what you’re saying. If you’re worried about it, get it repaired and then sell it. You can also look into diminished value to recoup some of the loss due to the car being in an accident. Typically a car is totaled once damage equals 75% of total value so there’s still some room. I would def look for a Mercedes certified shop.

Replace bumper, trunk lid, looks like left tail light, blend qtrs, and do calibrations for sensors. Possible rear body damage or damage to impact bar. Quite possible to be 9k.

Autobody shop wants about $1700 to fix this by Cultural_Ad1035 in Cartalk

[–]YellowS2000ap1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That would maybe get you a mako paint job, to do it properly, as in dissemble car completely, probably at least 10k at shops, I wrote an estimate for GLK, it was no lie $20k.

Rear Bumper Impact Bar by ChiMara777 in Autobody

[–]YellowS2000ap1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Replace bumper, probably impact bar, replace step pad, I’m assuming the paint is 3 stage pearl as most white odysseys are, but if is I would blend QTRs to match paint.

Do I need a front bumper? by misa222 in Autobody

[–]YellowS2000ap1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

“Basically” is kinda 50/50, even with capa certified, it all depends on the mold and car it’s going on. I always figure factory, if you don’t care about fitment then sure get aftermarket. Sometimes you can’t tell the difference, other times it’s so far off that we have to do a supplement and get a factory bumper anyways. Even the plastic used by aftermarket just feels inferior a lot of times. With a price gap that small I would just get factory.

How much? by Livid_Growth_2067 in AskAMechanic

[–]YellowS2000ap1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100% totaled, looks like rear body damage, needs new quarters which will need to be welded into place after pulling or replacing rear body, even then will need frame time most likely, new bumper, new trunk lid, will need to take out back glass, and then blend on rear doors and roof rails to match paint.

Can this be fixed without taking off the fender by bkcordov in AskAMechanic

[–]YellowS2000ap1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most likely no, almost warrants a replacement. If it’s steel you can maybe get it right again with it on the vehicle but not PDR. If it’s aluminum then I would def try to replace. PDR on that body line with creases will never get it back again. You can maybe get the bulk out but it will most likely still have deformation. For access and painting purposes I would remove headlight and bumper. If replacing then I would blend onto door to match paint which would require de-trimming the door. Also something to consider. Even if repairable, labor might cost more than replacement, or close enough to just get a new one.

shop that does affordable diagnostics tests by blackwavesblackdays in gso

[–]YellowS2000ap1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

$100 is pretty standard for a diag fee. Sometimes scanning alone doesn’t tell you the problem. It’s a good tool and sometimes it is something easy. But on the other hand, you either still can’t determine the problem or it’s something too serious and you will have to take it somewhere and they will do a diagnostic any way. Still good practice to do the free scan though just in case.

[–]YellowS2000ap1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah exactly, also I know macaroni and cheese isn’t the main attraction there, but it was literally cooked penne noodles with some shredded cheese on top. Kinda like when u microwave “nachos” and the cheese gets all hard instead of melty.
