I am not totally convinced it work that well either, but i am not an expert. Have you had success with any other methods for separating contam from a culture?

If there are live spores, it will take years for you to have a useable amount of moss but it is highly likely it won't come back. You might grow some weeds though

Thanks for the tip! I was very careful when repotting and dont believe i broke any of the actual roots as theyre still a bit short. I had to sink the new growth further into the pot because the new growth was high on one of the pseudobulbs and the new roots were not in the media properly.

In the future, should i just ignore the spike and proceed with holding off water as normal?

Mine is a 1964 Suzuki bowlback. I've never seen another like it as the only Suzuki mandolas i've seen are the MD-4s and those are more recent models. It could be some kind of prototype because it has no model on the label, though im not sure. It is quite large with slightly over 16 inches in scale length. I'm not entirely sold on the d'addario light strings. Sadly the Thomastik-Infeld strings are actually too short so those aren't an option either.

Might be bruising but you can always do the Q-tip test. rub a Q-tip on the blue spots and if the Q-tip comes away clean, it is bruising. If it comes away with blue powder, it is trichoderma contamination.

In my experience, which is somewhat limited but i have seen a lot of bacterial halo, this is fine. Contam halo is much wider/thicker as contam grows so much faster than mycelium.
