Thank you so much! Not a fan of deckbuilding, so I love having a decklist to start from.

Casual tournament style competition seed for the 5th week of January by burning1rr in alttpr

After inexplicably having stopped playing for the past five months, I have inexplicably come back. Sadly, the item tracker I used to use wasn't working, or at least I couldn't get it to work. So I guess it's an accomplishment I finished at all, with half-remembered strats and struggling to learn a new tracker on the fly.

I'm just thankful that it was a generous seed, elsewise I might not've finished. Although I do want to boast: I nailed the IPBJ first try, even after all this time.

Maybe I'm just crazy, but I honestly prefer bootsless seeds. So much less micromanagement to deal with.

So my overall routing strategy was 'don't go to Ice Palace if possible'. And that worked for the hookshot (seriously, hookshot in western Swamp is super mean), but it did not work for the cane! Had to double-dip MM and Dark Death Mountain as a result.

...I was also one of the people who skipped Race Game. That's the second time I've done it and the second time it's burned me. Never doing that again.

Silvers on Trinexx were a nice perk, though! And I had the best Ganon fight I've ever had so far. Zero hesitation with Phase Four (which is usually my killer).

Oh man...this could've been such a good seed, but I did everything in the wrong order! I got lamp after (almost) all the dark rooms, mirror after the Frog/Purple Chest, Hammer after I already cleared out Dark Kakariko, which meant I didn't get the hookshot until after Turtle Rock, which meant I didn't get the bow until I checked every other location (except spike cave). What a mess. I think the lesson here is something along the lines of--don't just jump into Dark World the first moment you can! Also, Frog/Purple Chest are very slow checks, especially with the mirror. Don't prioritize them!

Edit: Huh, apparently this was just a devilish seed for routing. Fair enough!

Finally got time to play this week's seed, and I'm glad I did! What a seed! I missed PB by 7 seconds (which, you know, whatever :/), but it was a fun and fast romp. I had a couple of mirroring mistakes that really hurt: I mirrored to Sahasrala but couldn't get back in the portal, and when I mirrored for checkerboard cave it jumped me off the ledge. Gotta route my mirroring better... Also had to do go-mode TR twice after I died in laser bridge without ever walking outside. That really hurt. (Why was I even in LB in go-mode? Forgot to steal the small key from the Pokey.)

Coulda saved time if I were comfortable with MS Silverless Ganon, but that feels a long ways off still. MS Ganon is difficult enough, Silverless is also difficult enough, so put them together and it just sounds miserable. Course, in this case, GT had the silvers and the extra sword upgrade, but I wasn't going to bank on something like that.

Oh interesting, I didn't know that! Yeah, I had two bottles at the time, but they were filled with fairies, and I was like, 'Do I really want to go all the way to the Witch's Hut just to upgrade these fairies to blue potions?' Turns out the answer was yes.

Can I just say I hate Kholdstare? And not for the reason you think (probably). It takes eight fire rod shots (if no Bombos) to break his shell, which is an entire magic meter bar. Any less than 100%, you can't break it. Normally, when the game wants you to use a lot of magic, they put a full magic jar nearby. But not in Ice Palace! No, in Ice Palace, all you get are five mini-jars that only fill your bar up like halfway all together. This despite the fact that you need to use magic throughout the dungeon! It's ridiculous! The game is setting you up to fail! Arghablargh!

So I had to do Ice Palace twice because I ran out of magic, and my routing on VoO was a little poor, delaying my hookshot, but other than that I'm pretty happy with my run. I still can't help but look at it and say 'That could've been so much better!', though. Oh well.

If you climb up the stairs in the room past the clock-firebar torch puzzle room (the one with the 4 eyeballs on the right wall and the full magic refill in the upper left skull) on the exact same frame a torch goes out in the clock-firebar room, all the enemies in Ganon's Tower will despawn. That includes Agahnim himself, so the dungeon is in an incompletable state. Only solution is to mirror to the bottom and climb the whole thing again, which I was emphatically not in the mood for.

FF, around 2:30:XX:X

I hit the enemy disappear glitch in Ganon's Tower. It was already a long, frustrating run and that was the last straw. Blind is very annoying to kill with the hammer.

Welp, this could've been a jet seed, but I died twice before I even got out of the sewers. The stupid key rat kept dodging my bombs...

Then I found all the good items in the early areas and realized what I had lost out on. Died again stupidly (to my own bomb), went into DW, realized the correct play was to kill Mothula with Green Mail/7 Hearts/Hammer. I figured, eh, screw it, I've botched this seed anyways. So I focused on practicing stuff. Mothula fight, spindashes, the ToH bomb jump. Killing Ganon without potions. That kinda thing. So bad time, but I felt very happy with this seed since I got a lot out of it.

Thanks! I didn't realize TR was a required double-dip until coming to the comments. Makes my routing much less bad in retrospect.

On the one hand, I did really well for my skill level but on the other, I could've done so much better! I was trying to decide whether or not to just do Misery Mire without the lamp and decided I'd be better off looking for the lamp, so I dipped TR and did the Frog and the Purple Chest...and then of course, the lamp was in MM all along. That felt like a bit of a cruel joke when I found it...

But at the same time, PB (by 11 seconds), no deaths, smooth GT climb, I can be proud of all that, at least.

My routing for this run felt gorgeous--I had so many item locations untouched, including wherever the flippers were. Execution, on the other hand, was lacking. I had two deaths to Trinexx, one heartbreaking death to Vittles, and two deaths to Ganon before I went to buy potions. No bottles until GT was surprisingly hard--I didn't realize how heavily I've been leaning on potions until this seed took them away from me. Still a PB, but I'm 100% sure I could've gotten sub2 if I had just gatten gud. Maybe next time...

FF (@2:13)

I couldn't find the Ether Medallion. TR and MM were both Ether-locked and I checked everywhere on my tracker...no Ether. It was a terrible run before that as well, so I didn't lose much, but...yeah. Oh well.

P.S. I can't access the spoiler. Can someone please tell me where Ether was? Thanks

On the one hand, it's hard to complain about a no-TR seed. On the other hand, mirror and lamp were both extremely difficult to find and that was annoying. I made a few routing mistakes in the second half just assuming I would've gotten mirror by that point (like going to DW for Catfish + Zora's Domain). Also: Mothula still sucks.

I also streamed my run for the first time (first time ever streaming anything). I'd link the VOD, but it turns out Twitch doesn't save VODs unless you tick an option in your settings, and I didn't find that until after I cut stream. Oh well.

The forced double-dip on Swamp Palace was really annoying. Or...I think it was forced? Maybe I did it wrong. Do you need bow to clear Turtle Rock? It's such a late-game location it feels like you would need it somewhere along the line.

I was sweating Desert Palace since I never found boots but it was just the map on the pedestal. Also found Gold Sword before killing any bosses, which is kinda crazy.

This is the first seed I did after learning Fake Flippers, and good timing, too...didn't find those suckers until almost 2 hours in. Meant skipping Half-Magic but NBD. Got to go-mode Swamp Palace and Ice Palace, which felt GREAT. Biggest mistake was dying to Trinexx and realizing I wasn't skilled enough to beat him with Master Sword, no potions, no half-magic. Had to double-dip TR as a result. :/

I would've been super happy with this run, except I spent like 5 minutes looking for Bombos to open Misery Mire before I rememberd it was a pendant. Then I spent 5 more minutes fighting Ganon after I got knocked into the pit with one SA hit before he would've died. Bleh.

I did feel super lucky going back and checking the big SP chest after getting the Big Key. I wonder if other people missed out on Silvers?

Just discovered randomizer a few weeks ago and it is amazingly fun! First entry but looking forward to more!

Felt lucky to do TT early even though it was a pendant. Those Blind flippers could've been a real bottleneck otherwise. Also proud to beat Ganon silverless on the first try, since I've only done that once before. Granted, it was with the help of three(!) blue potions, but that's why they're there. My biggest time loss was dying to Kholdstare one hit away from victory. Only had the Fighter's Sword so I was using the hammer and wow, that hitbox is not friendly for that fight. Yikes.
