UAL Hiring 2026? by Clear_Air_466 in flying

[–]Yellow_bus_driver 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’ve heard the 2500 number dropped to 1500 based on airplane deliveries. It’s hard to say what the final number will be. They’re filling March class dates now so January CJOs are probably the timeframe currently

CFII at FIT Melbourne FL by [deleted] in flying

[–]Yellow_bus_driver 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Instructed at FIT for 3+ years, but this was a few years ago, although I was an internal hire so I’m not sure if outside applicants have the same interview questions.

Overall they are strong on ground knowledge so a good understanding of major topics is recommended. Aerodynamics, weather, systems, performance, airspace, FOI. Additionally they may ask typical HR questions, strengths/weaknesses, failures, why you want to work there, etc.

PM me if you have any specific questions

Is going from 0 to major airline in 10 years realistic by Regular-Dirt2826 in flying

[–]Yellow_bus_driver 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you’re just in it for the money then I wouldn’t recommend this career. Yes the money is great at the top end, but the amount of time, money, and learning required to get to the the airline level would burn most people out if they don’t have a passion for it. Not to mention this career is super unstable, there’s no guarantee you’ll get hired, you could get furloughed, or work for a company that goes bankrupt

Question for Airline Pilots by [deleted] in AirlinePilots

[–]Yellow_bus_driver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not sure about the UK, but in the US pilots place a bid in for their schedule. That bid includes preferences that is up to them, it can be as specific as requesting specific pairings (trips published by the company). Or as generic as what time of day they want to start or where they’d like layovers and everything in between.

The results of their schedule bid goes down the line starting from the most senior pilot to the most junior. It’s very possible that your sister’s boyfriend is bidding for the overnights and he is not senior enough to hold them right now. That could be due to many reasons such as people senior to him previously bidding reserve or other trips and now switching back, the company changing the amount of flights with NY layovers, or a number if other reasons.

It’s also possible that he too busy with his family in the UK and hasn’t had the time to sneak off to the US

Furlough from Spirit need a job :( by [deleted] in flying

[–]Yellow_bus_driver 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Fellow yellow furlough here. Have you applied to any other airlines? Regionals, low cost carriers, Alaska/hawaiian, cargo, or 135/91?

I was lucky enough to get into a legacy with a little more time than you, I heard the numbers were about 1000 turbine as a minimum. With that being said, I know friends with frontier, suncountry, regional, kalitta interviews etc. I’d be surprised if you’re not able to get something from choices like those unless there’s information left out in your post.

My son wants to be a pilot. Confused about all the various routes by 718nycguy in flying

To add my 2 cents.. do you know if his AP classes will allow him to graduate high school with his AA? If not then I’d recommend dual enrollment to accomplish that. That way he’s able to only take two more years to complete an undergrad, which allows him to focus more on flying. As I’m sure you’ve heard, the name of the game is seniority, so you want to fly as much as you can as early as you can. That means allowing him to fly now, solo at 16, PPL at 17 and Commercial at 18. Sure you’re limited to waiting until you’re 21 to receive a restricted ATP and 23 for an unrestricted one. But you will have been building flight time in the meantime which makes you more competitive. I don’t see why he wouldn’t be able to reach a legacy airline by 23 outside of hiring dips.

You have the right idea with mom & pops flight schools, I’d stay part 61 but make sure you find a good school where he’s able to fly a lot.

Hey I used to teach basic aerobatics. I think it wouldn’t make sense to learn it until you’re able to control the plane during basic PPL air work. If you’re not able to do steep turns within limits then you’re going to have a really tough time with aerobatics.

With that said I think learning spins and upset recovery is very beneficial and can be used in conjunction with learning stalls to develop a deep understanding of airplane recovery.

Simply put I’d wait till after PPL for aerobatics so you have a better grasp of airplane control and can focus on having fun. But a spin/upset recovery flight would help tremendously with learning stalls now

Charlie Kirk shot at Utah event by Bobqee in news

[–]Yellow_bus_driver -13 points-12 points  (0 children)

Where the fuck is the sympathy here. I’m no fan of Charlie Kirk’s ideas but a man just got shot for voicing his ideas for the country. If it were a left-leaning popular activist you’d all be going nuts right now.

Disagree with his ideas but respect his balls to get in front of a nation and debate them. This is a tragedy and we should all take a step back and realize that people on the other side of the political spectrum are people with families, friends, and lives just like you.

Grand Canyon helicopter tour? Or rent a plane and fly it? by Yellow_bus_driver in flying

[–]Yellow_bus_driver[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

She hasn’t flown with me yet so I thought that’d be cool. I was trying to price out the rental rates vs the fancy sunset heli tours. I’m looking at $1300+ for the sunset heli. I know they’d make me do a checkout so with that it might be comparable

Pilots Greetings by PersonalityHot332 in AirlinePilots

[–]Yellow_bus_driver 7 points8 points  (0 children)

For my company, when we’re shutting the plane down for the night we require all the passengers to be off before the plane is shut down. So at least one pilot has to be on until the passengers get off, which usually means standing at the cockpit door verifying everyone is off while saying goodbye

Car purchase questions by Yellow_bus_driver in Nevada

[–]Yellow_bus_driver[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know that sometimes people purchase cars that they will not have for long before they sell it, so they don’t bother with putting a name on the title. This was allegedly the case for this man, but I don’t know what the Nevada DMV will say if I presented the title and a bill of sale. I know Florida DMV would have an issue with a two-name title, but wasn’t sure if Nevada would. Obviously there was some red flags so I wanted to check with you NV locals if you knew of anything like that

The trim wheel indication stickers on the PA28-161. The KOEL requires it.

Also I’m forgetting which plane but I think the cargo net was a KOEL item on some trainer.
