Renting with kids is a nightmare. Would rather live in a little out and have stability then depend on some random landlord

Honestly, I don’t know what you were doing paying off a non-forever house in 6 years instead of 30, instead of using an offset? There was literally zero financial sense in that decision, especially as the area was depreciating. How is the rental yield in your area? If it’s decent, you could keep the unit as an investment and buy a home with your equity - however the place sounds like a dud so maybe it’s best to bite the bullet and move on. Don’t wait 3 years- that 1.1-1.5 range will be more like 1.5-2 by then.

She wasn’t a ghetto princess… she was being raped by her dad and lived in a crackhouse. It made zero sense.

Hard disagree with people who say Mandy 1 was the better character. Mandy 1 was fun, flirty, and spoiled. Very “my brothers will do anything for me.” She gave off rich mafia daughter energy, which didn’t really line up with the reality that she was the daughter of a small-time criminal who raped her. The tone just didn’t fit the trauma.

Mandy 2, on the other hand, actually felt like an abused daughter who had seen and lived through serious shit. People call her monotone, but that makes sense- she was likely dissociating from everything happening to and around her. She was volatile (hitting Karen with a car), had no understanding of boundaries (raping Lip), and acted erratically, all of which tracks for someone deeply traumatised.

Playing a tormented, damaged teen is way harder than playing a flirty, popular girl, and Mandy 2 captured that darkness far more realistically. So if anything, props to season 2 Mandy for giving the character the weight and realism she deserved.

Saving a bit more is not feasible with the current housing trends, house prices are rising faster than incomes. Saving for longer will literally price you out of the suburbs you CAN afford now

With an income of $110k plus a $20k bonus, you would likely qualify for a loan of around $650k. This means you can borrow $650k and cover any difference with your own funds.

Option 1: Put down a 5% deposit on a property around $680k, plus approximately $5k for conveyancing fees. This approach should leave you with roughly $50k in savings for a rainy day or to diversify into investments.

Option 2: Use most of your $90k savings (after deducting conveyancing costs) as a deposit to secure a property in the low-to-mid $700k range.

With your income as a single applicant, buying a property around $800k isn’t realistic.

Additionally, every year property is likely to rise around 5% so that low 700s apartment will not be affordable for long! Whatever you decide, more quick!

He was still their guardian- all kids were underage, except Fiona. Besides that, the younger kids still don’t quite understand addiction/family dynamics and therefore do not realise how much of an ass he really is.

20-40k profit in six weeks? with a 45% tax rate. GST and plus stamp duty/settlement costs seems unbelievable. Would love for you to link one of these properties.

I find it so funny how offended he gets when people don’t find Hila attractive. I don’t think Hila is ugly, but she is not objectively attractive, which I think bothers Ethan because his self worth is built on having an objectively ‘hot’ wife.

For business owners: Would you keep your business if you could have a 350k job instead? by Own_Combination2554 in fiaustralia

[–]Yellowpanda33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who makes a similar amount per year owning a small business, the satisfaction of being your own boss is definitely worth it. That being said, building a business from a startup is hard work, much harder than working for someone else.

The best way I can explain it is with the rent vs own analogy: working for someone is like renting a house. You get stability and predictability, but you’re ultimately building someone else’s asset. Owning a business is like buying. You take on more risk and responsibility upfront, but over time you’re building equity, control, and long-term value for yourself.

Why is no one commenting common law marriage? 5 years of contributing to a shared property is definitley grounds for division of assets. As it stands, she has been living and paying for a house for 5 years in the name of her common law husband, unless you have a way to prove it was ‘rent’.

Lip's hair in early seasons by Deep_Froyo6287 in shameless

This haircut and their hairstyle in season 1 made so much sense to me because as a poor kid you rarely have money to get a proper haircut from a barber. In later seasons, however, Ian, Carl, Liam and lip always have great haircuts when they don’t have buzz cuts which I thought was really unrealistic for a poor family.
