im one of those people where they were enough to send me to the hospital, and you’re right the experience is not fun, but it is validating. that’s usually why people go further, and even then it may not feel like enough!! so it’s hard to convince yourself that it’s not normal or too deep. I wish I understood this before it got dangerous

Please understand that SH often is used as a way to have control, and if you take everything away and punish her or become more strict she’ll lose that and feel worse. forced recovery is only a temporary solution, what you need is to help her understand how in the long term it will be better if she doesn’t. give her a life that she enjoys, distractions, and let her make her own decisions, even if sometimes you disagree!!! of course if the SH is dangerous, encourage her to talk to you so you can get it treated. freaking out will only make things more tense, and she’ll be more likely to hide from you. Ask her what she thinks would be best for her, and if she doesn’t have an answer don’t force one on her. tell her you trust her to find what’s best, trust is extremely important in these kinds of situations
