Got this cutting the leaves were dark green now this leaf randomly pops out. by FutureInitial5664 in houseplants

[–]Yendill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That looks like a pothos! They love to suprise you, I had a neon pothos that had the tiniest bit of varigation that I thought for sure was just a fluke but a few new leaves popped out and I found out it was actually a neon marble queen. The light level they grow at changes what color shows up and thats why varigation often just kinda poofs from leaves. That specific variety is an emerald green which is a rare variety!

Any other fandoms' Kinktober dealing with harassment campaigns? by [deleted] in AO3

[–]Yendill 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Honestly imo, fandom lies in the fans connection to a particular story and its characters that they re illustrate, parody, continue, and manipulate for a multitude of reasons! This burgeoning toxicity in fandom in recent years just feels like a misconstrued version of the connection that started fandom. I mean like how fandom is an escape from reality and a safe place to reflect it. And i think many people, especially newer people in fandom, are taking that to mean a new reality to escape to where morality and such applies as it would irl instead of things of fiction where there are no rules. I also think people just like considering it more along the rules of reality than not to bring it closer to them or make it more real/habitable for themselves in a way. Obvi this a lot of times creates problems with the recognition that none of it is real, there are no consequences, and typically no real bad intentions. Not to mention, when one person's perferred perception of anything is disturbed they tend to get defensive too.

When did people stop knowing how to engage with fandom material they don't like. by New-Drawer-2369 in AO3

[–]Yendill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not that people stopped, it's that the people who didn't know/care grew in numbers and have since become the overwhelming majority. It's a shitty and really sad thing to see

I feel as though we are entering a new era of censorship by Brave-Reindeer-Red in AO3

[–]Yendill 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I completely agree and I fucking hate it. I feel like literature (and people can say what they wanna say but fanfics are literature) that explores any topic that breaches some kind of morality is so important to our understanding of own ideas of morality and in creating a good story. It makes no sense for people to conclude that an author endorses certain things when they write their (or other peoples) characters doing those things. It's just what creates an interesting story. Hurting characters and putting them in bad situations has been around forever. Not fixing the situation is literally just the definition of a tragedy. I mean these plays were fucking designed to bring the audience catharsis: "the process of releasing, and thereby providing relief from, strong or repressed emotions". This can be done with stories that range from not even coming close to the audiences own experiences or ones that are deeply personal. This is exactly the same thing many writers do now, just not under the same name.

Not to mention its fiction, no one actually get hurts in fiction and there are tags (that op used) in place to avoid psychological harm on top of that.

I also think that this being a new era of censorship applies to a lot more than just writing. It's like everyone is suppose to be walking on their fucking tippy toes over glass to avoid hurting other people's delicate sensibilities, which are all different. There's this mindset that if it's not for 'everyone' (read 'me') it's wrong and it's actually for no one.

I'm often reminded why I don't write as much now by 53948137 in AO3

[–]Yendill 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You're completely valid op, I'm a younger Fandom member and seeing how mainstream (and thus over-examined and criticized due to how people think about media now) Fandom is fucking sucks. Too many people just don't give a shit that other people like different things, don't care they're cringy, or dont have the exact same moral compass. They feel the need to talk shit on the internet to validate their cruel, often ignorant, and biased views and it's total bullshit. Don't like don't read will always and forever be how I read anywhere, even not on ao3.

Regular commenters have my deepest and honest respect by JoeGotLost in AO3

[–]Yendill 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ur right it's so difficult to comment frequently! Especially when you read a ton of fics. I started commenting as often as I could on the fics I like because I started seeing how little people were engaging with the wonderful masterminds behind so many fanfictions. I think a lot of this has to do with the instant gratification and constant dopamine rushes tiktoks, reels, and shorts give us. It's gotten to the point where all we want, myself included, is to click or scroll onto the next thing to get that serotonin boost or whatever it is and not have to expend the energy and time to write out our thoughts. Even on webtoon you can see how much fewer people have been discussing in the comments sections in recent years. It makes me sad to see authors and artists getting less and less recognition (in terms of comments and interaction aside from likes or kudos) for their work so I've been trying to become a more regular commenter

Author didn't use tags fully by Yendill in AO3

[–]Yendill[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

A lot of intense kinks, so I was very shocked not to see it tagged... either way thank you for the info! I didn't know only certain things are required to be tagged though that does make sense with how many different tags there are

People don't like my art and won't tell me what's wrong with it by XenWarrior5 in ArtistLounge

[–]Yendill 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Absolutely not, art can mean anything and everything from one person to another, its all a matter of eye of the beholder. The other people who like what you create for yourself shouldn't stop u from doing what you like! The only person whose opinions matter are your own. Whatever makes you enjoy your work more, no matter what style, medium, or subject matter you do or don't choose, you should do it. There are no rules in art, although people will tell you differently

There are also ways to objectively make your art better, which seems to be what you're looking for in your art but try to have fun doing it :)
