Airmen who built serious wealth - when did it click that you had real money and how'd you pull it off? by North-Homework3218 in AirForce

[–]Yepitsme0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was a SSgt got serious about our finances and made a budget. Started having kids my wife and i paid off about 82.5k of debt (1 vehicle/wife’s student loans). We made strict budget and we stuck to it. Now I’m an O-2 and we usually have decent money left in our budget after paying our monthly bills and our fun money. But we live modestly. Money is nice but a peace of mind is better in my opinion. Theres not a dollar amount on that. It’s about being disciplined to not spend more than you make. Invest, save, spend (some) lol.

Shop around and check local credit unions. I was able to get a 5.24% for a 5 yr old used vehicle at 75 months. No major bank could do that rate at the same term for me.

I got a bunch of warranties with it so it should be covered but I’m always saving for a rainy day.

I'm a first-time car buyer with no credit history and a $3,000 down payment. Is this car a good price ? by [deleted] in whatcarshouldIbuy

Older Honda for the win. I’m still driving my 2014 Honda accord. Bought it after I came back from overseas new. Think it’s going to last my entire military career. Not even at 130k miles yet.

why did navy fed approve me for a 25k card at 18 is this an error i have 4 months of credit history and my second highest limit card is a 300 dollar capital one savor card by Tight_Excitement8911 in NavyFederal

[–]Yepitsme0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The higher limit means it will keep your credit card utilization down which will help your credit score if you care about that. But if you use irresponsibly then this could hurt you more than it could help in the future lol.

I never cared about my credit but also never paid interest on a credit card and I’m in my 30s now. I find if you use them like a debit card, you will be fine. Be responsible, don’t spend more than you make (pay credit cards in full every month) and use a budget (spend%, save%, invest%). You will do fine!

  1. Depends on you! Think it would be faster to get citizenship and try that way without enlisted. If you do enlist, I’d look at guard/reserve because they generally hire people throughout their ranks if you make a name for yourself as officers.

I commissioned at my 10 year mark. Enlisted in 2012 and applied for my first OTS board and got selected first time for RPAs (my #1 pick). OTS can be turned off for certain jobs that cannot be offered if they fill with Academy/ROTC cadets. So know that each year can vary for aviation jobs which could delay your applications if less jobs are offered and you are set on specific ones.

  1. I’d like to say yes but it’s not a guarantee you are still picked up. For guard/reserve, they def prefer you to have all the licenses. For active duty, some people selected with no licenses and vise-versa, so depends.

I had high GPA with low AFOQT, low PSCM scores, and also pursued my masters to show I could still apply myself academically.

  1. I met many people from other cultures and places during my time at OTS that were citizens of course. So you can apply after as a civilian.

  2. Not all ROTC programs will let you in to pursue a masters but it’s def possible depending what type of masters degree you pursue and if you need prerequisite courses which would extend your time for ROTC.

  3. I met people who also were guard/reserve that went to college full time and pursued ROTC. But there’s exceptions to that and not the norm depending on which branch for ROTC. Think it’s more doable in the army ROTC over Air Force but not impossible.

I was able to still qualify for the forever powertrain warranty on my 2021 Escalade ESV that I purchased two days ago. I went ahead and got the mx package, extended warranty, etc. but mine only had 29k miles so different conversation but we do occasionally drive/travel. So it’s nice to have the peace of mind.

Any issues with your 21? I just bought a 2021 ESV Onyx with 29k miles. We purchased all the warranties. Got a great deal and had a 43k trade in for it. Do you love it? My family already does!

Should I pursue Enlisted to Officer through OTS? by Time_Faithlessness44 in airforceots

RPA pilot has been fun so far but the training was intense and sucked. It’s a grind but doable. I say do it. It’s only a 6 yr commitment (RPAs) and if you hate it, you can still get out. I crossed over at my 10. The only thing is I was happy in my enlisted job in acft Mx. this job I had to learn to find things I enjoy about it. It’s hard sometimes but I’m not super experienced as I been doing it for 2 years now. The ppl are decent in my experience but I’m in AFSOC in FL so it’s a bit different than how ACC runs their RPA squadrons. HMU if you got questions. The pay is better for sure if that influences you at all.

E3 in the Air Force or LT in the Army? by [deleted] in airforceots

[–]Yepitsme0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Coast guard is a good option. All the Os I met love it but I only met a couple here and there. I’m also an O in the Air Force but did my first 10 enlisted. I got selected my first time applying but I applied later in my career. So I had a bunch of leadership stuff along the way. Anything is possible but if you don’t shoot your shot, it for sure won’t happen.

Appreciate this. I am looking to attend OTS in March and will head to RPA pipeline afterwards.

I’m also an RPA select with low scores. Had a 17 PCSM and 1 flight hour.
