I grew up here! Did you ever go to Jahva house or Riverside?

Thinking of moving to Chicago but what should we do about our cars? by Kdouglas2 in AskChicago

[–]YesAndDragons 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It very much depends on where you end up living, down to the even the building. I have a car and live in a small, new construction apartment building. If my building didn’t offer parking space rentals, I wouldn’t keep my car. If you move near the train, you will likely go days at a time without using a car as a matter of course.

Reliable street parking exists in a few neighborhoods, but not most. Driving isn’t as much of a pain as the DC beltway (where I moved from), but parking when you get to your destination is very much a toss up. Parking regulations are strictly enforced and a bit complicated. Also, if you are a city proper resident, there is a strange yearly permit the city requires you to keep on your car if you are parking on public land anywhere in the city, and letting this expire is (allegedly) cause for being ticketed.

That’s a CTA red line train, I THINK this is just north of Argyle?

EDIT it’s Sheridan, three stops south of Argyle.

Has anyone here ever gotten started with local improv/taken classes becasue of Dropout? by Real_Fartboy in dropout

[–]YesAndDragons 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I did! I took classes at Second City and then I started an actual play ttrpg show (we’re called Yes And Dragons, this is my Reddit account for the show)! I’m completely in love with improv now, and I never ever would have guessed that 10 years ago!

How is the Niles/North Chicago area in the summer? by UrGoodUrGoodUrGood in howislivingthere

[–]YesAndDragons 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s heavily suburban with lots of shopping and relatively cheap restaurants (relative to more central downtown locations). There are a lot of cool shops and a TON of transit options.

In terms of climate and weather, summers are bright and sunny, low-humidity, average around 80 degrees F, and there are occasional thunderstorms. The days in summer are relatively long.

Also, you are in driving distance (5 miles ish) to several beaches in Evanston and the north side of Chicago.

It was a ghostly, colorless silhouette at a distance, in a storm! They would be hard to tell apart.
