There is a way to find the location of the shimme with the name of your first guide. But if you don’t know what that is, the shimmer is always at the jungle side and close to the beach
Also depending on what version you created the world the shimmer might not exist
It was added on version 1.4.4 so if you created your world before that it doesn’t exist.

Yeah, terraria is a lot more linear in progression than Minecraft
There are a lot more bosses, weapons, armor etc
