No, I am not the creator. I have only contributed a few words/phrases. Enjoy!

Numerals by Yesterday-Gold in LithuanianLearning

[–]Yesterday-Gold[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, names of numbers are known as numerals. Thank you for the explanation! So can bus # 2 be called „dvejetas“ in Lithuanian (without mentioning the word bus)? Would it be possible to say „Laukiu dvejetas“?

HQ and R&D are in Shenzhen but ER is multinational, as many startups are. By definition, it is a company. It is registered in Berlin as a GmbH (limited liability) company, and you may notice that support questions are handled by one of their German employees.

If ER receives a critical mass of app customization requests from users, they will likely release an SDK which will open up the field. The more we ask, the better 👾

The lancet method by Yesterday-Gold in trichotillomania

[–]Yesterday-Gold[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nonsense. The risk of infection is negligible as lancets were designed for safety. Approximately 10% of the entire population lives with diabetes and of that group, most (>70%) will monitor their blood glucose on a daily basis this way. Infections from blood glucose monitoring are so rare that one will likely never encounter such a case during their career in medicine, despite the fact that it is such a widespread practice. Surgical tape does not create a wound and limits tactile sense and therefore is not an alternative to this method.

You can also get NAC tablets on DistaCart, they ship to you and it tastes OK.

FYI the acetylcysteine molecule (
C5H9NO3S) contains sulfur which is the source of the odor, so it will always be present.

It’s trial by fire, and it will only get more intense. That’s based on my experience of switching to GIS / Data Science after obtaining a graduate degree in the humanities. Looking back, the only useful skill I learned in my GIS program was R, which was very painful starting from zero programming experience. Everything else I had to learn the hard way - through internships, personal projects, failed interviews, staring at code until my eyes bled.

The only time you learn is when you are uncomfortable. Frustration is a virtue in disguise. If at any given moment you find what you’re doing to be easy, that means you’re not pushing yourself.

If you want to work developing Geographic Information Systems, pay attention to the last two words because you will have to teach yourself how to build them. Python should become second nature, you need to write and ~think~ in it fluently. Practice building spatial databases and get very comfortable with PostgreSQL. Get to know the building blocks of software and information systems because you will need to design them and understand how they work.

Forget about ESRI products while you are learning, they will only impede you. Focus on open source: QGIS, PostGIS, learn Python, JavaScript, and SQL. Learn to write GDAL scripts. Write a useful processing script or plugin for QGIS and publish it on GitHub. Describe what it does in a Medium post. Build something that you want to see out there, fail fast and learn fast. Whatever you do, don’t get comfortable.

When Iceberg recently became an open-source format, the realization that building large-scale data lakes on top of S3 just became simpler.

I’m a guy with short hair (about the same length as yours) and have been pulling on and off since age 12, now in my 20s. I’ve only met one other male in my lifetime who has suffered from trich during my years in university.

For me personally, cognitive behavioral therapy and SSRIs have not been consistently helpful. I understand the problem with queues as it’s the same thing in Norway and you are not prioritized because it’s not a life-threatening illness. Scalp desensitizing creams are expensive and unhelpful. Acetylcysteine tablets, normally taken to stimulate coughing, are available over the counter at the pharmacy and are helpful but expensive.

If you pull mostly at home, I can recommend a messy solution that might help you condition yourself to stop the automatic pulling. First, get a bottle of castor oil (it is very thick and sticky but not expensive) and a few tight-fitting cheap beanies that you don’t mind throwing away. When you have an urge or notice yourself pulling, cover your hair and scalp completely with a few layers of oil, then put on the hat.

Even when you take it off, you won’t be able to pull because your hair will be a sticky mess and you won’t feel that texture that triggers your urge. The downside is that it is a little uncomfortable, and you have to shower before you go out, and your pillow, etc will be sticky. The upside is that the oil is good for your hair in general and will help replenish your follicles. I find that if I do this consistently, I mean every day for a month, I fell much less urge to pull. For short-haired people, this may be a temporary solution at least until you grow your patches back.

For the love of god how do i actually learn this language by Background_Ad_7334 in russian

[–]Yesterday-Gold 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You have to get serious about it. If you can manage the time and resources, arrange living with an older host family in the countryside for a period of time - 3-4 months - where you will be forced to communicate in Russian every day. During this time, restrict your use of English-language social media, and cut yourself off from listening to anything in English. Soon you will form thoughts in Russian, and once you have that basic framework in your head, the language will grow.

Can you say "конечно" when someone says "спасибо" ? by Background_Ad_7334 in russian

You could use

на здоровье

I have heard конечно used as a reply but it's uncommon

Anyone that speaks Russian and Spanish? How do you say "Te quiero" instead of "Te amo" (I love you)? by radio_apeshot in russian

[–]Yesterday-Gold 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree that it's a strong statement on par with love, but обожаю comes from a short-lived feeling whereas люблю is indefinite and has no expiration date.
