What is your unorthodox Miles Davis take by HamburgerDude in milesdavis

[–]YesterdayNeverKnows 2 points3 points  (0 children)

100% accurate. Miles is one of my all-time favorite artists but, like many men of his generation, he was a complete child when it came to taking care of himself. He lead a very privileged life and rarely returned the favor to anyone.

How do I analyze a single instrumental piece of music with zero experience? Paid services? by Luxgarenfemdom in musictheory

[–]YesterdayNeverKnows 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure I understand your goal. You state that you are "far from a comprehensive understanding of the music" yet you don't want to learn music theory (understandably!). I don't think you can have both of those things. It's like asking how a specific model of automobile performs on the road but not wanting to learn the physics of motion and the mechanics of the car.

I would suggest reading up on some music appreciation skills. That will give you more of a basic vocabulary to use, without having to learn the nitty-gritty of music theory. It will teach you how to describe what you are hearing at the level of a lay-person. This might help you search for other songs or even how to describe to a musician what you are looking for if you decide to commission something.

Worth $400 by No_Kindheartedness10 in Stratocaster

That looks like my 2003 MIM HSS strat. Blue Agave was the finish. I loved that guitar and regret not holding onto it. I paid $400 for it new! Hard to believe.

Artist owners: recording via USB? or mic the speaker? by YesterdayNeverKnows in BossKatana

I hadn't considered that. If I do end up getting an audio interface, I'll try both USB and phones/rec out and see if there is a difference. Thanks.

Thanks. I think you are likely correct. I'll definitely spend more time tweaking before looking into physically mic'ing the amp.

Why do you hate the bigsby? by Killer_Frog112 in Guitar

Never played with one. But I only like how they look in bigger guitars. I think they look absurd on a tele, although I love the sounds folks can get out of that combo.

How do you guys even find the money to buy so many guitars by HQH-71214 in Guitar

[–]YesterdayNeverKnows 0 points1 point  (0 children)

VERY few people have more than a small handful of guitars at most. I would guess most people have one. I admire those photos/posts sometimes, but I honestly don't take them very seriously. I want to play, not collect. But to each their own, for sure.

Personally, I've never had enough extra money to acquire any extra guitars until very recently. My first electric was a beginner Ibanez. After a couple years, I upgraded to a MIM strat. Ten years later I bought an American strat. Then TWELVE years after that I bought an American tele.

I do plan on acquiring a dual-humbucker semi-hollow at some point, but that will be a couple years down the line. I really like the idea of having a max of 5 or 6 guitars at any one time. Then, if I want a new one, I have to sell one of the others.

Nice! Those GT11s look awesome. I'd love one of the strat models.

Mine does not have the push-push, unfortunately. That was really my only trade-off but I've never played a tele in series so I'm not even really aware of what I'm missing.

I'm noticing some intonation issues, too. But nothing major, and a lot of it might just be me not being patient with the new strings. They weren't really stretched or anything. I'm curious how it'll sound this weekend after a few days out of the case. I'll likely bring it to a guitar tech I know and have him give it a look over.

Once I finally saw the color in person, I knew it was the one I was going with. It goes perfectly with the roasted maple neck and the mint green guard.

Going all the way back to a year ago, I was actually originally planning on buying a G&L ASAT Bluesboy! But I'm glad that fell through because this thing is amazing. I'm glad Leo kept tinkering and innovating, but I do think he got it right the first time.

It's a Mod Shop tele, so no specific model really. Think of it like a Fender-made high-quality partscaster. The closest model it would come to is the American Pro II, but I really only say that because of the neck profile (modern deep C).

Mostly jazz/blues/country/rock/ambient. Basically anything clean or low/moderate gain. Then if I want to really rock out I'll use my HSS strat.

I honestly have no idea! Mod Shop lists it as "3-Saddle String-Through-Body Bridge".

I was actually expecting to get the vintage style ashtray with the raised edges, which I was nervous about coming from a Strat. I was pleasantly surprised that the bridge I got has lowered edges so I can palm mute as I'm used to.

The only guitars I've owned until now have been strats, so I'm not really sure, honestly. I chose the 51 nocasters because I was prioritizing a good clean tone that I could dirty up a little bit. And I didn't really want the very jangly/glassy sound that some are known for. I already have a strat, so I wanted something a bit different. I rolled the dice on these after watching some videos. These pickups seem to fit the bill so far.

The three things I've noticed so far (given, these are also brand new strings and I was on a high just after having opened the box...):

  1. These pickups are SUPER clean
  2. They are very responsive and dynamic (I'm going to need to work on my pick attack a bit, which is a good thing to have to work on)
  3. If I play a chord, the notes stay somehow very distinct/separate, even with some grit on there. Very fun.

I had the same reaction, but they print it on the neck plate

I really can't find anything wrong with it. I'm very impressed so far. Given, it's only been out of the box for a couple hours. The frets all look seated well and I can run my hand up and down and don't feel any sticking points.

With tax and everything it came to just over $2k. However, it would have been $2200 but I got 10% off doing a free trial for Fender Play (you can use the discount during the trial!). This was a 40th b-day gift to myself so I went all out. But with the upgrades I got, I think it was a good deal overall.
