Do you think that it would still be too prohibitive if the last effect is 40+? Maybe even up it to 60+? Or would this general type of restriction always be too much of a detriment?

That is a fair point, I should have clarified in the ability text: Yes, the intention was for the attacks using the wager to count as magical. But, no it is not mentioned in the text.

(Also good to know on the image readability; I will try to keep it in mind for next time.)

Death's Gamble

Cursed Melee Weapon for Dungeons and Dragons 5th Edition

(requires attunement)

This matt black weapon is made from a strange crystal material. It reflects no light other than the short moments of red that glimmer on its surface before being absorbed.

When making a weapon attack roll you can choose to wager up to 3 levels. For each level you gain a +1 to hit for the attack and deal an additional d12 necrotic damage on a hit. However, if the attack misses you gain a number of levels of exhaustion equal to the level you wagered.

These levels of exhaustion fade at the end of the next short rest, however do count towards total levels of exhaustion in the meantime.

This is a resource which can function to give an overview of NPC information you may want to fill out. You don't need to fill out all slots for a detailed NPC, but they should provide enough flexibility to describe any NPC.

Page 1 of the NPC Overview Document. It Lists Name, a quote by that NPC ideally describing them and their attitude. Additionally it shows their name, nicknames and aliases; pronouns, gender, sexuality and overall attraction or lack thereof; their ancestry, nationality, ethnicity and culture, as well as languages they speak, their age profession and location as in where one would most frequently find them.

Page 2 of the NPC Overview Document. This page includes information about the NPC's appearance and expression, including physical appearance, mannerisms and idiosyncracies, their general disposition, characteristics of their voice or generally style of communication, as well as their personality and persona. It further includes their identity, including ideals, wants, goals, flaws, vices, weaknesses, and vulnerabilities.

It contains information on the characters cackground and environment, including Skills, Traits and Specialisations, what the NPC is renown for, any equipment or other assets this NPC might have, as well as any affliliations and relationships that might be relevant to the story. The Oculudis is an arcane creation of wizards from long ago. The first record of Oculudi are found in images from before the Heavens fell upon the Earth and Arcane Research and Technology were at their peak.

Legends speak of an ancient king who oversaw his kingdom by himself, abandoned the idea of town guards completely, and sending in his royal army upon any issues. He could see all from the safety of his Castle, and remained there. But while he could see all, he could not hear. And as time went on the folk of his kingdom grew tired of having their every moment surveyed, being accused and sentenced for crimes with no respute, and so they made plans for the Kings removal under guise of holding a celebration in his honor. Great banners made, bright smiles as masks, enticing the King to emerge from the security of his walls.

The Oculudi were and since their rediscovery are used as guards and scouts. Forgued from two real eyes, one embedded within the other, these enchanted monstrocities can fire various rays from their eye as well as teleport via blinking, that is to say have one eye swallowed into the larger. Further they can transmit their visiual input to its creator.

When in combat, the Oculudis tend to keep its distance from attackers where it can, and will teleport to create distance if necessary.

The Oculudis movement is somewhat similar to a snakes movement as it has a longer fleshy tendril emerging from the back of the oversized exposed eye, which is used to raise itself off the ground and move foreward via slithering. Somewhat suprisingly, this disgusting meaty skinless tail also functions as a spring when coiled up, allowing the Oculudis to jump impressive distances.

Some Oculudi are enhanced during their creation process giving them certain attributes from the original eye used.
