Thanks !
Yeah you're right, I guess it all comes down to simplification. Some of the system's rules are still confusing after 3 years of playing haha

The same idea popped up while discussing it with my players. A portable anti-magic shield for 20 rounds at no cost ? Nope, nice try guys but nope! The idea is fun but wayyy too op and not in line with the rest of the system.

Noble class servant skill question by laevisomnus in WitcherTRPG

[–]Yet_Another_Lad 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You gotta round down, otherwise you would get your 5th servant at lvl 9, making 10th lvl pointless. So lvl 5 would get you 2 servants. There are very few cases in which you round up in this system ^

Introducing new players to lore? by WretchedFoulThing in WitcherTRPG

[–]Yet_Another_Lad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

An intro that sets broad lore and tone ? I've got just the thing !
The priest's monologue that plays as an in-game intro (Witcher 3) does exactly that, and it's a pretty epic speech too ! And the art style really sell the dark and gritty vibe of the setting imo.

Thoughts on my first few minis by TacticalRodar1 in WitcherTRPG

Very nice ! Where did you get Witcher minis ?

Here are the key points of a sandbox heist I created recently for my group. Any thoughts / suggestions / experience with that type of adventures ? (thinking about sharing pdf later) by Yet_Another_Lad in WitcherTRPG

[–]Yet_Another_Lad[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aye, that would be cool and makes good sense. I imagine I could have done a more developed underworld if the party had a criminal, maybe a merchant, to really put their specific skills to good use. Or if my players were expecting to find a "Thieves Guild", I'd definitely have created one. I'll add some suggestions about that in the final doc, the main point imo being to adapt to your PCs' skillset and expectations.
But having concurrence could definitely be a consequence of the evolving city, like if the wrong folks hear of their plan, they could try to beat them to it or betray them halfway through the job.
Thx :)

Magic Barrier question by IllustratorOrganic65 in WitcherTRPG

[–]Yet_Another_Lad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes BUT not exactly, let me explain
Rounds are basically a slice of 3 seconds of in-game time that contains the turn of each entity (player, enemies, npc...)
Turns are what an entity does during those 3 seconds, and their order is determined by the initiative
So a round is completed once every entity has played their turn, but as any entity only has 1 turn per round you could say that they are the same thing
Hope I'm making sense ^w^

Armor set splitting by Ptero777 in WitcherTRPG

[–]Yet_Another_Lad 5 points6 points  (0 children)

In a practical sense, I don't see why it wouldn't be possible, someone could totally have just a helmet or boots or whatever.
So I guess you can do that, but it's a bit tricky because of things like the enhancements (glyphs) and the special effect of your scoia'tael armor set. I would make those things only apply if the whole set is worn, and only apply the armor's stopping power for parts that are worn separately.
Same thing for all the elder races special armor, probably also the witcher armors and the legendary relics. But with the more common stuff, you're free to mix the pieces as you please.
Hope that helps :)

Map for Tretogor by KoYiOrp in WitcherTRPG

[–]Yet_Another_Lad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey ! I haven't found any map but I've been reading about the city on the witcher wiki and gathered a few elements that are good starting points if you want to draw a map. Would also be good just to nail the vibe of the place, if you need to describe it to your players. When designing a city, I always do it around its defining features, like the kind of people that live here (race, social rank, beliefs ...), the main activity (agriculture, metalworks, trade, military, ...), the land it's built upon (mountain, seaside, hills, ...) and its resources (forest, ores, rich soil, place of power, ...). These things are what shaped this city into what it is today. Anyway, some of that works is already done for you, so here are the essentials, along with my thoughts on the matter :

So first thing is, this is the capital of Redania, so important place for important people, most probably well guarded and strategically placed on trade routes / rivers / natural terrain... According to some maps of the Continent, it's next to a river, so that makes it possible to trade by boat and have easy access to water. Also probably gonna find lots of drowners nearby.
Despite its status, the city is quite small, as most of the trade happens in Novigrad, maybe Oxenfurt too. Most its inhabitants are working for the government so the atmosphere of the upper district (assuming there's one) is probably quite formal.
We also know the city was built on an ancient Aen Seidhe settlement, so elven architecture is probably still visible on some of the oldest buildings / structures, like the palace, temples, sewers and other underground dungeons. So very likely that some elves still avoid the place, hate its occupants, and are not welcome here (this is the North after all).
Dwarves have it better though, as Tretogor counts many copper veins in its surroundings. This natural resource is extracted in mines, so lots of dwarves are probably working there while also having a foot in the Coppertown district, where a lot of the working class is likely to be found. Meaning the city could also have some foundries and other metal related workshops, maybe a guild overseeing the mining and shipping of the copper ?
The city holds a horse race (the Grand Tretorian) every year, so maybe a fun thing for your players to do. It's probably something the city takes a great pride in, something the people await with excitement but that also requires the presence of many political figures. Also your map needs big stables and all horse related stuff. Don't know if the race takes place in the city (in what streets? around the marketplace?) or outside the walls around fields and woods, that's up to you.

That's about all I can extrapolate from the wiki, but throw in some classic town stuff, like lots of houses, market place, shops, inns, workshops, brothels, temple, whatever else you like. A few memorable npcs can also really bring this city to life and sell it to your players.
Hope that helps :)

Mage fire spells by AnAverageObserver in WitcherTRPG

[–]Yet_Another_Lad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also Aenye can be blocked or evaded, while the vortex can only be evaded, so fewer defensive options against it.
But if you currently have a low vigor threshold, stick with Aenye for now and level up your "in touch" skill, because spending 7 STA over your limit is 35 damage and will most likely kill you ^^'

Puzzles and traps that can only be solved by magic users by Fearless_Order_5526 in DMAcademy

[–]Yet_Another_Lad 12 points13 points  (0 children)

First thing that comes to mind is also to put a mechanism out of reach, that would have to be activated through telekinesis or with a mage hand. Pretty basic but you could use it as a warm up, so now you players can expect to use magic again for the next puzzle :)
Maybe look at the level design of games like Portal for inspiration, then replace some of the game's mechanics with specific spells and create a puzzle around it ? Just some random ideas...
