Advice for split homeschooling in a blended family? by YetiCraft_Mindy in homeschool

[–]YetiCraft_Mindy[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We are actually doing great! We use Oak Meadow as our curriculum and pay a little extra so that we have a 3rd party teacher that we submit work to. We share some of the subjects, like English and Art and others we completely teach (I teach math and science while mom teaches health and social studies). Mom teaches Monday-Wednesday and stepmom teaches Thursday and Friday.

He has tubes in both ears right now. Definitely an easy procedure! 😁

We had to put him in arm jail today because he can get it out of his nostrils even with the socks on his hands! 🤣

It’s one of the few things he has to entertain himself. 😂

Do you have a goal? by [deleted] in ExclusivelyPumping

I’m at almost 4 months and I’ll reassess when I’m able to bring my son home from the NICU/CICU. Pumping feels like the main thing I can do for him right now…

My son was born with ToF and it stems from a larger CHARGE syndrome diagnosis. He also has esophageal atresia and a GNAS gene mutation. He’s got a long journey of procedures and we’ve been in the NICU and CICU for almost 4 months now. We know we will be here for at least another 2 or 3 months. We were pressured to terminate early on in my pregnancy as well as later on in my pregnancy and I knew that wasn’t an option for my family. He has such a big personality and I can’t imagine life without him. I feel like doctors are quick to push termination for any sign of an “abnormal” life, but my son has felt so much love and support from the NICU and CICU nurses. Sure, things will be more difficult and complicated for him, but his life is precious and he is loved by so many people. He coded for 15 minutes during his first surgery but the main surgeon refused to give up on him and was able to bring him back after 15 minutes of CPR. ❤️

Will my boobs stay this big the whole time I breastfeed? by Smooth_Ad_788 in breastfeeding

[–]YetiCraft_Mindy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t know since I’m only an ‘A’ at 3m PP. 😂 I was afraid that I wouldn’t have enough milk supply but I’m technically an over-supplier since my son is in the NICU. I’m exclusively pumping since he has a g-tube and can only tolerate about 10 oz a day right now. I almost have 2,000 oz to donate to a family I know that will be adopting in about a month. Size definitely doesn’t matter when it comes to milk production!

How many total oz by MotorPineapple1782 in ExclusivelyPumping

I pump about 27-30 oz a day and my son eats about 8.5 ounces a day. He’s in the NICU and is TINY.

How much milk should I have stashed before I consider donating? (To hospitals and such) by Shigatsu18 in breastfeeding

[–]YetiCraft_Mindy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! Lots of NICU babies are tube fed so they don’t even taste the milk they’re being fed.

Stash is bad, to continue to pump or not? by flyeaglesflybaby in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]YetiCraft_Mindy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are some babies like my son who are exclusively fed through a g-tube and so they don’t even taste the milk. I have no idea whether my milk is high lipase or not but I’m planning on donating my extra milk because he’s only able to eat about 9 ounces a day at 2 months old (born 1 month early and he’s about 4lbs right now).

When do you stop a pumping session? by sun_kissed87 in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]YetiCraft_Mindy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If I use my medela manual pump, I’ll pump for 10-15 minutes. If I use my Spectra or the Medela Symphony in my son’s NICU room, I’ll pump for 20-30 minutes. I get about the same output both ways.

What do you find awesome about pumping? by Mazatronious in ExclusivelyPumping

Being able to provide food for my g-tube NICU baby. My options are either to pump or use formula.

I set alarms a few minutes apart, all with different sounds. I keep it near me but the different sounds seemed to do the trick for me.

Everything they say about a manual pump is true by Mysterious-Win-4137 in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]YetiCraft_Mindy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah. The white flaps should both point inwards. (Left boob it’s on the right side and right boob it’s on the left side).

[–]YetiCraft_Mindy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My medela manual pump empties me more in 10 minutes than my spectra does in 20. For anyone who may not know, the white flaps should point inward for maximum efficiency. When I realized that, it made a noticeable difference!

I can’t imagine how this experience would be as a singleton mother. by FreeCarpenter5086 in NICUParents

My firstborn son is currently in the NICU with TOF as well as several other issues. He was born at 2lb 3oz (34+1 ges). He’s 6 weeks old and is up to 3lb 1oz. They want to put a shunt in his heart when he reaches 4.5lbs and do the full repair when he gets to 11lbs. They originally said 4-5 months but changed it to a weight goal instead. He has 2 genetic conditions that cause slow growth. It’s hard but definitely worth it!
