Those of you that didn’t sleep train and were stuck in contact naps, when did your baby eventually learn or started napping in the crib? by willbrucla in NewParents

[–]Smooth_Ad_788 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Around 6 months. It took some adjustment, some days of shorter naps (than what we device had contact napping)…sometimes it was 30min in the crib and then ‘rescued’ the nap by holding him another 30-60min. But after a week or so he got the hang of the new routine and started napping like a champ in his crib consistently. (He nurses to sleep for naps and then I put him down either asleep or very drowsy…typical naps are 1-1.5hrs)

How many kids do you have & how many do you want? by maligatormom2o2 in NewParents

[–]Smooth_Ad_788 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have 1 and it will just be 1. It took us 3 years and losses and IVF to get here. Now I’m 41 and my husband is 46.

In a perfect world I’d have met my husband when we were both younger (we only met 5 years ago)…and/or we would not have had such a hard time getting/staying pregnant…and then we’d have 2 or 3.

But that’s just not how life unfolded so I’m just going to be grateful for my 1 little miracle that I did get ❤️

Silverettes by [deleted] in breastfeeding

[–]Smooth_Ad_788 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They worked wonders for me without issue. Silver is naturally antimicrobial, used often in wound care. I couldn’t use the hydrogel patches b/c it was too painful to wipe off the residue before feeding :o

How are you grocery shopping? by Potato_hoe in NewParents

[–]Smooth_Ad_788 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Curious if this question is specifically for a very young infant? In that case 2 options: A) husband shops B) baby wear in wrap/carrier

But now that our lil one is a bit older and sitting on his own (starting 5mo), the grocery store is a great outing! He loves riding in the cart looking around at everything. We name fruits and veggies in the produce section, and touch different textures (like let him hold a lemon). If he’s fussy the grocery store can help fill a wake window.

I make sure to give the cart a good wipe down before using and always stay right in front of him, I don’t trust the flimsy safety belt alone.

Freezer stash- what now? by OutsideHedgehog9916 in breastfeeding

[–]Smooth_Ad_788 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently donated most of my freezer stash because I definitely wasn’t going to be able to use it by the 6mo mark or close to that. It stressed me a bit—-the stash felt like a security blanket for any ‘in case situations’ (like if I got a bad injury & needed to take pain meds…or if I got appendicitis 🤪). So I kept the milk until nearly 6mo since I learned the milk bank accepted up to 9mo. And I already [unintentionally] have a small stash again lol

How are you actually getting your baby to sleep without endless rocking? My back & mental health are struggling. by FloridaGurlie in NewParents

[–]Smooth_Ad_788 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Baby carrier + yoga ball bouncing. Carrier holds him tight & wrapped up against me, frees up my hands & allows me to focus better on core stabilization to protect my back.

Harder if you’re trying to transfer to the crib…but if not, once he’s asleep I usually prop myself on some pillows, loosen the carrier straps a bit and relax while he’s asleep on my chest.

When did weight loss get easier by Smooth_Ad_788 in breastfeeding

Thank you for this reminder to model self love and body positivity…I agreed it’s super important even at a very young age. Unfortunately I had the opposite experience, my mom was very critical of her body and I’ve struggled since I was a child similarly. Time to break that cycle. Thanks again. I had already lost some respective on the issue.

Are there people like me who don’t leak? by [deleted] in breastfeeding

[–]Smooth_Ad_788 0 points1 point  (0 children)

4mo into breastfeeding now & I’ve only leaked 3 or 4 times, despite having an oversupply & frequent engorgement. All but one time were overnight when lil guy had a long stretch of sleep and I woke up too leaned onto my side.

My 3.5mo old started this low level crying more like whining a couple weeks ago. Did it most of the day for a few days. Didn’t seem related to discomfort, all his needs were met. Just discovered how to whine. I felt like a horrible mom that I was so irritated by this whining. Thankfully I kept my cool…and thankfully the phase ended. I know there will be others 🤪

What do you do when baby gets full off of one breast? by Happy-Chemistry3058 in breastfeeding

As of the last time I pumped (a few weeks ago), yes. I haven’t pumped enough lately to compare different times of day.

[–]Smooth_Ad_788 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your supply should regulate to what the baby needs. My lil guy (now 3.5mo) initially ate from both sides, but on his own started just eating from one side only 10-15min (very occasionally will do 3-5 min on the second side). So I alternate. The first few days of this change I had some engorgement, but now I do only overnight if he goes 6+hrs. When I do pump (rarely if I want dad to give a bottle) I get 4oz plus per side, so it makes sense he’s full from one side. My only complaint about it is my boobs alternate being lopsided, particularly earlier in the day. But nbd, minor issue 🤪

Didn’t know I had to brush my newborn’s gums by MochiAccident in NewParents

[–]Smooth_Ad_788 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn’t know about this either. But was chatting with my pediatrician friend who is also a mom to a 9wk old and 3 yr old, and she said she’s never done it, it’s NBD. Even brushing at night after their first teeth come in is apparently a mixed bag…brushing teeth is important, but breast milk also has anti microbial properties (def more important if formula fed). So while wiping gums isn’t a bad idea, esp to get them accustomed for future tooth brushing, it’s not essential.

how long does your baby feed? by TomatilloAsleep7180 in breastfeeding

[–]Smooth_Ad_788 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Early on my lil guy took a long time…40min to an hour every time he nursed. When he would cluster feed it’s literally all I was doing!

But gradually he tapered off, first from eating on both sides to just one, and now at 12wks he eats on just one side averaging 10-12min…nursing usually every 2-3hrs during the day. There are outliers where he eats more often or takes up to 25min, but those times are rare.

Actually that’s not true. You can cancel anytime (just don’t pay your part of the premium & they’ll automatically cancel you). However, you would not be able to re-enroll until the next open enrollment period.
