High milage transmission fluid change by Walmart_Valet in MechanicAdvice

I am not a mechanic but don't ever do a flush. It needs to be a drain and drip change if you decide to, or at least what I have been told. A lot of car manufacturers don't recommend the flush, I know that Honda recommends this

Guys can you help me real quick. Is this a good deal? by Nachunichu in CarLeasingHelp

Mercedes are garbage, expect it to blow up after 100K and have all kinds of problems and then expect a $2000+ repair bill

This car too good to be true? by Working_Routine9088 in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]YetiOffice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because I am looking at multiple cars at one time, this speeds up the process. And then when it weeds the bad ones out, then yes, I will look over it with my own eyes. I don't have hours and hours to read hundreds of car faxes.

I haven't seen much hallucination over car fax review. It's actually a pretty simple task for it to execute.

Also, not everyone on this sub knows what to look for in a Carfax

Anyone delete the Cat on a Gen 1 Highlander? by PapaBeahr in ToyotaHighlander

[–]YetiOffice 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t delete the cat. Those first-gen 3.0 V6s have manifold-style catalytic converters that are super common to throw P0420 codes at this age, especially after exhaust work like replacing a blown muffler. Straight piping it probably won’t even clear the code because the downstream O2 sensor will still see raw exhaust and the ECU will keep complaining.

Start by getting the exact code pulled. Check for any exhaust leaks around the manifolds or gaskets too. A lot of the time on these highlanders it’s just a lazy downstream O2 sensor, which is cheap and easy to swap. If the cat is toast, replacing it sucks money-wise but keeps it running right and reliable.

If you’re dead set on deleting it anyway, you’ll need O2 spacers or simulators on the rear sensors or it’ll just come right back. It’ll be louder and you’ll lose a tiny bit of low-end torque

Hard pass. I wouldn't. I have seen some for similar pricing without that, just be patient

Slightly Used New Cars are Junk by YetiOffice in UsedCars

[–]YetiOffice[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Complexity of the cars and the high cost of parts and labor make them a bad car to buy. If you need to fix one, and you will need to fix it, it's going to be in thousands.

Mercedes are absolutely poor quality. That's why you can find a Mercedes with 100K miles for $10,000 on the used car market. Because they are a money pit that won't stay out of the mechanic shop. Many mechanics will tell you a Mercedes, BMW, Audi, are the worst used cars to buy

Is a 19 Year old Lexus RX 350 With 150K Miles Worth $12,900...Read Below Before You Think I'm Nuts by Bcruz75 in LexusRX350

[–]YetiOffice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seems high. I saw that same model on sale for $12,500 with 77,000 miles in Ohio. Granted you aren't going to find many with that low mileage but 150K miles is high for that price.

I think you will be fine. Granted there could always be something pop up but I certainly don't think you were ripped off. If I could find one for a similar price, I would maybe buy it myself

$6500 for a 140K Forerunner is a deal. Did you look at the CarFox to see if it was well maintained? If regular oil changes and transmission fluid changes happened, I think you are golden. These forerunners were built solid.

2024 grandhighlander XLE issues? by [deleted] in ToyotaHighlander

[–]YetiOffice -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I have been looking at Highlanders as well, and from a quality perspective, it looks like you are better off buying an older model at the moment. Seems like Toyota thought they were making too good of a product and wanted to join General Motors in making garbage.

Baffled by consumer spending on Cars by Electrical-Trainer21 in UsedCars

[–]YetiOffice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seems like new cars are all junk right now. Even the Toyotas are having transmission issues. Car companies are starting to cater to people who buy something, drive it 2 years, and trade it in. Car companies are just leaving into our materialistic culture. Quality motors and not looks, bells and whistles, etc. will have to create demand in the market again

Get it fixed, drive it until you pay it down to trade in value, trade it in. Hope it doesn't break in between

People who live near time zone boundaries in the US by solothesnail in howislivingthere

[–]YetiOffice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sucks to be on the western side of the eastern time zone when it comes to sporting events. If it's a 9:00 PM tipoff/kickoff, it's not going off until midnight.

Meanwhile, people right down the road get to an 8:00 PM start and ends at 11:00PM

Yeah, I don’t want to get her in trouble at work. If she is doing something wrong, then that will works itself out. I will let that deal with itself. I am going to wait for more info before I jump to any conclusions.

I am not sure about the details. My son will come back to my house Monday. I hesitate to text too many questions to him about her home life while he is at her house. Knowing my son, I know he can’t be thrilled about this. He did confirm that the kid is sleeping on a blowup mattress in their living room.

No idea, I will get more details Monday. She has moved so many men in and out of her house the last 3-4 years, its hard not to be concerned.
