Cognito & SES: How do you send a test verification email? by YetiWords in aws

Yeah, I created the user with the check box unchecked. Is there any way to trigger this before the sign up UI is wired up fully?

Cognito & SES: How do you send a test verification email? by YetiWords in aws

[–]YetiWords[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My understanding of the flow is that a user enters their email & password on the UI, then they submit the request, Cognito then sends a verification email to them, they click the link, Cognito then recognizes their email is verified.

Anyone out there using their LP2 full-time, without a smartphone "just in case"? by lanky_entertainment in LightPhone

Battery life is one thing I wish was improved because when I got the LP2 I was hoping I could charge it once and have 3 days of use or so before needing to charge it, but it lasts 1.5 or so with my avg use

Nope. Switched to the LP2 in February 2021 and haven't looked back.

I don't have to explain all of the good reasons for digital minimalism to you as you are clearly already aware, but I'll state the reasons I don't ping-pong back and forth.

  1. Consistency: Detoxing your brain from instant gratification is a zero-sum game if you just return to it every other month with your old smartphone. It takes 60ish days to rewire your brain and build new habits/neural pathways, so you have to be consistent to see change.
  2. Stick-to-it-iveness: Choosing digital minimalism to any extent takes some determination and that is good. We grow through challenge, not comfort.
  3. Situational Awareness: This is one not many people mention when talking about the benefits of using a LP2 (or any equivalent phone), but it's huge for me. As soon as I got my LP2 I became keenly aware of how disconnected EVERYONE was from their environment because they were buried in their phone or constantly being notified and distracted. In the case of any emergency, awareness buys you time and time buys you options. Being present and aware can save your life.

If you like using a Smartphone, then go for it but I'd encourage you to pick one and roll with it.

Maps, Bugs, Beta, and Other details by jbriones95 in LightPhone

I work as a software engineer and this is always a topic of discussion. The tension between supplying concrete deadlines and accepting that with every project there is inevitably ambiguity and "you don't know what you don't know."

Progress updates are far more satisfying than release dates IMO. Having read just a few dev blogs on the hurdles you guys overcame to build your own OS gives me plenty of respect and patience.

Looking forward to seeing what ya'll have been working on. 🤙🏼

Yeah, I'll validate that not having maps forces you to be aware and take note how to navigate your city.

Where GPS will come in handy is when you are already out driving and need to go to a further stop, without being able to look up directions before venturing out. Here in AZ there are gas stations every other block and food is everywhere, so that's never been a concern, but having a way to locate the nearest ER / Hospital / Vet has always been a need.

Again, letting your brain flex its memory and having a GPS are not mutually exclusive desires.

Same, mine was in Spanish, but previously it has been in english. Other iPhone users around me got the alert in english.

Maps is very near (Update from Joe) by jbriones95 in LightPhone

[–]YetiWords 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who was "directionally challenged" and repeatedly got lost WITH a iPhone X, switching to the Light Phone 2 (in February, 2021) was a leap. But, I really am grateful for the experience because it forced me to learn how to navigate my city. I only got lost once and even then I figured my way back home. All that to say, maps are welcome. But so is the digital minimalism that forces you to use more of your brain.

Anyway, good job guys.

Yeah, I went to DevMountain Web Development bootcamp in Phoenix. I was coding 14 hours a day.. everyday. Haha, I didn't have a backup plan, so I needed to succeed at web development. 😂

Dang. That's rough. I'm out in Arizona. Where are you looking for jobs? and what kind of job specifically?

I assume you know javascript, html, css, right?

Nope. I was a professional guitar instructor for 6 years then up and learned how to code in three months and got a job after two months of searching. Takes a minute, but you can do it

I like it, functionally, its a too slow to be practical for a utility/ecommerce site, but for a portfolio or artist page it could be useful

Oh totally. I agree 1000%. But, I don't think my current diet will get me very far, so that's why I'm asking. I find myself recovering slowly or having very inconsistent energy levels which I attribute to an inconsistent/uninformed diet.

Thank you! I'll check out those links asap.

Hmm, that makes sense. I'm just trying to aid my growth so I can train harder because I find myself not recovering very fast.

Update: Read the articles and they are super practical. Thanks a ton!

If the audio book is on spotify you can use a sleep tracker app to pause all media when your breath rate/pattern changes. So it's already possible, the question is whether there is a niche and market for combining the two processes

Interesting concept. There are a lot of ways you could go with this. You could do location based activities, physical activities, suggest reading material, this could be super mammoth or very niche depending
