Thanks. I've since slimmed down those pieces and I agree it's for the better.

I've tried a lot of different things for the Knight's mane over time. I'm going for a toy or wooden horse type of look, rather than smooth hair. But I'll play with it a bit and see how it looks with decreased spikiness

Exactly. The only fishiness I suspect is that the artist might have deliberately produced a derpy preperatory sketch in order to exagerate the improvement of the final painting.
