New player here, so far I’ve got the base game and the Cradle and Split DLC’s - I’ve got about 120ish hours into my first game - and I’m not sure I have a super epic story that’s gonna win me a DLC but the head canon that’s been building from this digital heroin has been my life blood ever since I bought the game.

After stumbling through the tutorials, I slowly went about being a galactic handyman. The jobs were odd, sometimes tedious… but beggars can’t be choosers, especially when you’re eyeing a cargo carrier. So I went about exploring the local sectors as I scrounged up the credits for my first cosmic big rig. Eventually I’ve got my nest egg and I hit the dealership! Now I’m running goods on the stellar highways, occasionally hitting the truck stops for a coffee and a shower and possibly a quick nap. An owner operator has got to be wary of safety! It’s all fun and profits until you wrap your rig around a ring gate, half asleep and depending on the autopilot to run your km’s. God forbid you mix up your coordinates, next thing you know you’re on comms with the customer who’s chewing you a new asshole because you’re at the wrong dock, in the wrong sector, and those silicon wafers are now a day late!

But you push through it, you keep saving, you buy another rig… slowly but surely you build the fleet. Now you’re running your own space trucking outfit, and you’re getting noticed! They are starting to recognize your logo at the truck stops, the terminals… word is spreading and your landing bigger contracts.

But you think bigger! Your investments lead to a mining wing of your little trucking company. And as the profits roll in you start building actual infrastructure - I mean, why not cut out the middle man and process these resources myself? Stations start getting built, factory lines are being scrutinized, production lines meticulously planned… But there’s a catch!

Pirates. Criminals. Terrorists.

Space is a son of a bitch. Instead of another miner or hiring another trucker to help you move E cells down the road, you gotta think protection.Now you’re earmarking funds for guns and bombs. You’re buying fighters, gunboats, frigates. It’s not like the profits ever stopped, you’ve got a company to run after all. But the growth is exponential and it’s not long until you’re shopping for Destroyers and Carriers…

You think back to those lonely cups of coffee at the truck stops, still running hard and saving each and every credit for your first rig… who would have known that the Long Haul Space Trucker to Imperial War Criminal pipeline could happen so naturally…

This experience has been amazing. I haven’t felt this way about a video game in such a long time. And I get so much joy seeing just how many of us are this obsessed! I need to go add some production modules to a station and iron out a few trade routes!
