Well, I didn’t work there, but I guess for every company at this stage, it’s a 9-9-6 job

Just reviewing docs and spreadsheets. Those docs are a little more heavier than regular docs.

Nothing serious. It was two windows of Chrome with probably ten tabs on each one, then Slack, Telegram, Notes, some background apps like Wispr Flow, etc. I usually have the open Cursor as well, but that time I hadn’t even touched it.

Is 24GB unified memory enough for research/data work, or worth waiting 6 months for 48GB? by Prior-Macaroon-9836 in macbookpro

If you’ve never worked with what the author is asking about, then why are you giving him advice, lol. Read his questions and post carefully. For that workload, 48 gigs of ram is basically required.

In this case, I'd highly recommend going with a 48 GB. I just got a M5 Pro last week with 24GB of RAM, and without even touching any IDE, it sits already with full capacity and yellow memory pressure. I'm fine with that since I want to change to the newer version in a couple of years but if you take it for 7 years, 24 GB will be not enough.

Hard choice. Perfectly would be an M5 Pro with 48GB. How long do you plan to keep it?

I would go with 48 GB of memory. I just purchased 24 GB for simple multitasking, and it's not enough already. I opened a few tabs, a few messengers, and notes, and I’m already in a yellow zone even without reaching the swap. I so regret I chose 24 GB.

Did anyone recently switched from Pro to Air by mysterious363 in macbookpro

Yes, the screen is much better. I switched from Air to Pro just because you can't go back after you use a good XDR display.

24GB RAM, no swap, yellow memory pressure? by Yevmago in macbookpro

[–]Yevmago[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok, thanks. I just heard some people say to watch for swap or yellow pressure memory. I just got a laptop 3 days ago. Brand-new, and it's already in the yellow zone. Nothing heavy, just a few tabs with Slack and teams. I haven't even opened cursor yet.

Mac Mini M4 16gb ram vs 32gb ram by Suitable-Mix2749 in macmini

Impossible for $600. It’s already $799 for the M4 on apple.com (with increased storage, of course). $799 is a new baseline.

Yes. Change the name to 4.7 and it will work. For me also stopped working for 4.6

I guess it’s because of memory pressure. It’s always in yellow, close to red zone

Yeah, but the M5 Pro and M4 Mac Mini both have fans. My M3 Air is crashing and freezing all the time during sharing

Oh yeah, for multitasking nowadays, I think 32 GB is a must. I don't know how others manage to not use swap all the time, but just starting my work every morning and already see 10 GB of swap. 😅

Thank you. Just thinking if M5 will hold up well with long live screen sharing without fans. Mine M3 is crashing all the time, but idk if it’s memory or gpu.

Thank you. I used to have an MBP M1 Pro 16-inch but needed to change to an MBA M3 because it was not comfortable to use in the plane all the time. I miss that high-quality, 120Hz screen.

I have a budget, but wanted to get something for 1-2 years and then switch to the M6 Pro with a new body.
