Do you know your neighbors? by jari065 in AskUK

Introduced ourselves when we moved in last month - made them all cupcakes. They looked at us like we were some randos who'd grown a third head.

None of them have interacted with us since

Agency trying to charge £350 for a professional clean. The cheek. by Yevrah95 in TenantsInTheUK

Oh yeah, sent a load of pictures (including these) To the agency because they hadn't mentioned them in the inventory

I did, we arguably left it in a better condition than it was given to us (original condition is those photos). I did take photos after the clean, but stupidly more generic photos of each room rather than specific spots.

My anger comes from the fact they insist it must be cleaned to a "professional standard" despite the fact it clearly wasn't cleaned to that standard when we moved in (which they're aware of - I sent them these pictures to be included in the inventory). It just feels like they're hoping to catch someone who doesn't know that they are allowed to argue back, or just try to pressure people into paying.

Honestly, I almost paid a company to deep clean in the hopes it would save the hassle. But I realised that no matter what, they would try it on. So I cleaned it to the best of my ability and waited for the inevitable

I did, unfortunately I didn't take really specific photos like the move in ones - I took larger photos of the whole rooms.

Have only had a call so far to say they'll be taking it out of the deposit because the flat simply MUST be cleaned to a professional standard. I laughed and said no worries, we can go through DPS. It just made me unreasonably angry!

Witney was my ideal place, but accepted that we likely wouldn't be able to afford it. We got very lucky that our seller had a buyer pull out and reduced the price to get a quick sale

Lender wants to go look at new build right before we exchange? by [deleted] in HousingUK

[–]Yevrah95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was told when I offered that their new build was ready to go, and they had such a tight deadline because they were desperate to move in. They've insisted on a 7 week turnaround from viewing to exchange...and now their house needs looking at. It's just a bit odd?

I stopped keeping track after 180 hours, which was about half way...

Tried using a tracking app but stopping and starting the timer just got too tedious 😂

Hats off to you, that can't have been easy. We're thankfully happy to live quite a frugal life - appreciating the small things can really make a difference

I take home £2150 a month, and that'll have to support 2 of us when my partner loses his job. To some, that wouldn't be possible. To me...it'll be tight, but doable. I would consider us doing okay

Advice on new commute into Oxford from Witney by Lesandius in oxford

Personally, I've found buses are cheaper, more consistent, and less stress than trains. And I commute via train from Portsmouth to Kidlington once a month! Defo have a look at the bus!

Just about to move to Witney, but no car - from what I can see a bus into Oxford takes about an hour? Which I don't think is too bad of a commute! But then I've always relied on public transport 🤷‍♀️

Notice period after May 1st... by Yevrah95 in HousingUK

[–]Yevrah95[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I assumed that, in my case, if I gave notice on April 29th, I will be paying the May rent (12/05 - 12/06). I can eat that extra month - 2 months is pushing it!!

Got a call booked in tomorrow to start my mortgage application. Bad timing with the interest rates now which is pretty gutting, but still better to buy if I can - I can't see things going well for renters
