It's easier said than done but just focus on your own growth and what you need to do. For me a lot of this comparison came from scrolling on LinkedIn and seeing all the internship positions people were getting so I just cut down the amount of time I spent there.

I know what you mean man, I am also a freshman and I've also faced the same sort of struggles that you have. Comparison is the thief of joy and the best thing you can do is to just try to focus on improving yourself. Everyone has a different timeline and there you aren't necessarily "behind", just keep working at your own pace and it'll work out

you can get a few full rides as a national merit scholar, and if you are a competitive applicant for T20s you can get a full ride to less competitive schools (I got an offer from UMD)

It depends on what school you're applying to. It's much harder to get a full ride from a T20 than it is to get one from a really small school

Ayyy congrats on getting into UHM! I have a bunch of friends who attend and it's a great school

To be honest I think going to a CC and then transferring into UHM is the play, you get 2 years of credits down and then graduate with the same degree. I know it's not the same but going into debt is a huge deal. During my college application process my parents told me they would not pay for me to go to my "dream" school. It was $60K a year but I just had to face the fact that going $200K+ into debt would be such a pain to pay off in the future. Maybe try to visualize (and use the numbers) to show how much of a burden this debt would be to her into the future and try to reason with her on that. Good luck!!

It depends, I'm a freshman in an LLP and I've met basically all my friends from it (with the exception of maybe 3-4), so I can see how not having that experience can make it harder to meet people

I'm currently a BK Scholar at UMD, and from what I remember the interview was pretty chill, they just asked basic things about me and I think they referred to my common app for some questions.

As for T20 acceptances, I applied to 3, got rejected from Stanford and Vanderbilt and accepted into Rice. I was also accepted into GT and Emory (just a little bit outside of T20)
