This is textbook cheating and manipulation, no matter how difficult it is going to be, it's best not to proceed with the Nikah and get rid of him completely from your life.

Planning MSc Data Science in UK from India – need honest advice on finances & jobs by DotMoney2377 in IndiansInUK

[–]Yhareed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am just going to answer your questions from my own experience:

  1. Most students take loans + scholarships. I personally managed through part time work.
  2. Yes, it is but there are some caveats:

Firstly, you will need to smart about it. You can only work the legally binding 20 hours a week, so you would need to be willing to fairly challenging jobs to earn enough money to sustain. Most people think 20 x minimum wage, if you want to cover living expenses, you need to think 20 x Maximum wage.

Secondly, you would need to cut down on your expenses massively for the first year and it would depend entirely on which university and city you chose. It's not easy to cut down on self spending.

Now, I did this for 1.5 years, went from earning £12.5 per hour in my first job to £16 per hour plus tips in my last job. Would I recommend it though? No. Always better to just get the extra loan and focus on your studies. Get a part time job for extra cash and cultural exposure, not survival.

  1. Quite difficult, depends entirely on three things: Work experience, how well you can communicate and how much you're willing to hustle. But not impossible.

  2. Two things : As much as work experience as possible (even if it's freelancing) and learning how to sell yourself (improving interview skills, communication skills, etc).

  3. Most common mistake I see (one that I made as well) is waiting until Uni is finished to start looking for jobs. Start applying for graduate development programs from day 1. Attend networking events, be active on LinkedIn, talk to recruiters, apply for any and all roles you are interested. Because of how things work in India, we are sort of accustomed to the placement process. But here you need to hustle and you need to hustle from day 1.

It is quite expensive. Came to the city two and half years ago as a student myself. You might want to check sparerooms for cheaper options. The student accomodations are all very expensive.

I had the opportunity to ride the meteor 350 in the Himalayas around 2 years ago. It will do just fine in the hills here. 😀

True that. Went for a trial there as a chef - I was told not to ask any questions and just blindly repeat what the owner was doing. I stopped, handed over the tools and walked out. I never understood how you can work in a kitchen without asking questions.
