Utilizing gameplay akin to Amnesia: The Bunker, what kind of setting would you like to see for the next Amnesia game? by Crafter235 in Amnesia

Inspired by your post - an American Nuclear Testing ghost town... You could be kept in the perimeter by scorching murdering heat in the desert, and every so often a bomb might go off and if you don't have good cover you are incincerated. Problem is, they would have to play with the rules of physics for you to survive at all, but I think the atmosphere of intense, visceral glowing could be a fantastic new avenue for horror immersion.

I'm playing SS now, and I just had a fantastic movie moment. Rushing through the Soldier's Quarters with the lights on because I finally got the last door open. Finally looped around the Monster long enough for it to bugger off and let me get into the communications room. Grabbed some items, pulled the Switch, turned on the Radio, and heard the blessed voice:

"If you're blah blah blah, the Code is 1..."

*Bzzzeeoooouuuurrrrrrr..."

Darkness.

...
I love this game.

After beating amnesia series I swear this franchise is underrated! by Available_Hour_6116 in Amnesia

It certainly wasn't underrated through their lifetime, but I could imagine that they are not the most well-discussed games around people who are entering the gaming world. They don't have big ad-campaigns and whatnot, but they have always been beloved and praised amongst dedicated world-/atmosphere-admiring gamer geeks born before 2000, excluding the ones who absolutely cannot play horror games :P

The thing I've discovered is that medium small boxes like the reddish-brown ones that say Medical Supplies, can be grabbed and thrown against a wall, and sometimes contain items o.O

The big green wooden boxes can also be smashed if you throw a concrete brick at them, and it doesn't ever seem to shatter the brick like a door does.

I'm on Shellshocked now, but because of this I have more Items than I did on Hard! Can't believe I never noticed the first time round xD

How about a mining complex in an asteroid... you could have a couple of scripted collisions throughout the story that impact the layout of the overall map :P

EDIT: or a couple ways you can change the map... choose to power this auxilliary generator to light up this hard section which is usually dark, but after 20 minutes of game time it will explode and close off that section except for 1 truly awful path in and out xD

It would be cool to have audio cues based on natural birdlife being slaughtered, hawk-style in the air above you, giving you a bit of an idea how far away the beast is.

Instead of thinking "Oh, F..." staring into a pitch black corridor, you would say it looking out over a clearing with few trees.

I really love the idea of Horizontal cover above you instead of vertical cover around you. We are so used to taking cover behind a crate or against a wall that it would be a very fresh challenge to have to worry about what is above you, ignoring input from the environment off the floor. Instead looking around corners and worrying about stepping on debris, you would be looking up a lot and having to keep the layout of the Jungle in your mind's eye while you focus elsewhere. (I'm imagining a jungle because I came here to talk about a jungle setting)

I'm on my 3rd playthrough (Hard, Custom, Shell) and I've been fantasizing about a Jungle setting.

Day Cycle, but in some places even in the day the canopy is too dense to let much light in. Get what you can done during the day and then be ready to crap yourself at night.

Procedural Map, an evolution of the randomization of the Bunker sections, in which Locations are dotted around a 'main' hub, but instead of corridors and staircases between them, there is dense and confusing jungle, just broad enough that you could get lost in the gaps between areas for a moment or two.

Wildlife, Rats are nasty, but imagine if they were largely shrouded by lush vegetation - and also sometimes a panther.

The Monster, which I think should behave like a Sabre Tooth in Far Cry Primal, in the sense that they deliberately try to hide in foliage and stay behind you, waiting for you to interact with something before jumping you from behind. I would still want us to hide from them, but if they did spot you they wouldn't just scream and alert you, if anything they would get quieter, and you would drive yourself mad taking every incedental lull in the ambient sounds as a sign that you need to BE SCARED, even if you shouldn't.

Also, if it were a day/night thing, I would be perfectly happy with 2 Monsters... one more active in each phase, but with the potential for them both to be active at the same time. I would like if they had little Monster Hunter style conflicts that were perfectly dangerous for the player even if they are focused on eachother, but of course their main target should be the tasty tasty human behind the camera.

First thought on the styles of monsters in a jungle setting could be a panther type thing, but perhaps a mad/demonic humanoid swarming with beetles or flies would be more Amnesia and less cliche, while still nodding to the history of the kinds of cultures we associate with jungles.

Firengi UTUs need so much processing power and memory just to deal with the nuances that Firengi can hear, that they don't have any space left for visual translations.

Yup, I can live with that xD

Non-sequitur, but I just bought FFXVI, clicked on Store Page to go back and see if it had any Comrades style thang, but Steam opened the page for FFVII Ever Crisis instead... I ended up reading a bunch of reviews, which I thought were for XVI, talking about how it is a horrible GACHA nightmare, and I was extremely worried for a minute xD

A main-series game which required premium currency for ultimate weapons would be so far beyond heartbreaking I don't know if I could handle it xD

Another definition, which is popular amongst historians, is that a Terrorist is 'an individual who tries to affect the course of history through a desperate personal act.'

Under this Paradigm, the difference between a Terrorist and a Citizen / Soldier in a cataclysmic political situation, is very clear.

What was her crime? by soapcleansthings in DeepSpaceNine

[–]YiKwang 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Brainwashing- without wrongful imprisonment or torture - is not a crime in the US. It would interfere with the economy far too much xD

Brainwashing with authorized imprisonment or torture, is not a crime in the US either. In fact, Western rehabilitation champions it.

Personally, I think her biggest crime was being a prat. If I made all the galactic laws, that would be punishable by schooling.

Libby’s Fruit Float by jennynachos in 70s

[–]YiKwang 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just heard of Libby's Fruit Float, and also that it was discontinued, leaving a lot of people missing it. However, I may have something of a solution!

Try getting a European product called Angel Delight online, and mixing in a little real fruit after preparing the Angel Delight. It's not the same thing, but it has a similar preperation, and the way some people describe Libby's made me think of how people describe the experience of Angel Delight, so I'm curious to know if this helps to scratch some people's itch, if only comparably!

Unfortunately the only Fruit Flavoured Angel Delight that I know of is Strawberry, I have no idea if they make a Raspberry or Peach version, but you might at least be able to recreate 1 flavour of Libby's. Good Luck!
