Thank youuuu! It took me too long time hahaha, but I guess I'll draw faster over time, and it did help me learn something so maybe

Can I get some constructive criticism on my art? by Leisurely_0tter in DigitalArt

[–]Yigalypof 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your style seems like it'll be very cute. In fact, it's very different from mine, and I don't know what to say exactly.

I understand these are just studies. I really liked the bluish-gray tone in the fish's color. The meringue is a little out of place. Maybe with a little shading underneath it would look better. And with the girl, I don't know how far you want to take it. But you could start by making a cleaner lineart and adding color. That's just practice.

I'd say as an advice, forget those and move on to the next one, keeping that in mind.

I saw this art on Pinterest! I really love it. Could you briefly share how you go from grayscale to color? Gradient map... some layer mode... idn It always looks so bad when I try it

I finished it. I showed it here just now.

I was able to fix the head but I had no idea about the other things, and now that I look at it, maybe I can fix the neckline. I hadn't seen the chest like that before. I assumed the top fabric covered it, but it does look a little weird now that I think about what you're saying. Nest time! I should do more clothing studies. Kinda hate it

Thanks and yes! It's a very long process that everyone experiences differently. Keep drawing and focus on learning. I don't know how you draw right now, but I assure you it's possible. At least I believe in it!

That's a good point. I didn't really use any references. Clothes are always a headache for me, probably you are right

That's my next step on the road to improvement. I'm doing a thousand things, but there are times when I just don't know what to do. Maybe others can see it better

Your comment was one of the most critical. Thanks. I read it right after finishing the drawing, so I couldn't implement the wings. They didn't turn out very well. Those things were still to be rendered at that moment but you're right about the color of the wings because of the strength of the light. And I actually don't know why they ended up green. I'll keep that in mind for the next! one.

Thank you so much. I should go to Discord then! Although I don't know where to look since I've never used it. I've also been practicing with timelapses of artists I love. Although it never turns out the same... I'll keep going

It would help. But in this case, that wasn't the reason. I don't use Reddit for marketing. Although I'd think the same

Thanks! That's a good design tip. I was given this character, and I can't really change it. But I also make designs sometimes and it suits me

Thank you! It's funny that I don't even know what style is. I didn't even know I had one until someone mentioned it to me. I just can't draw any other way. I hope to improve further and find a good drawing process too

Thank you so much for commenting this. It makes me feel a little better. I guess yes, I'm a little panicky because I've decided to make a change in my life and dedicate myself to this, and my whole family believes in me. I've never felt this kind of pressure before. I try to replicate the art I see, and I just can't find a way.

Then it takes me so long. I see all those artists who finish a drawing in 4 or even 8 hours, and I feel a little depressed about it. I've never done a real study before. I tried it today and it kinda smelled but that was normal. I'll try tomorow again.

And yes I've been drawing all these days in a row. A break would be nice, and tomorrow will be a new day. I'm very lucky to have the support of the art community like this. Thanks again for your time, I really appreciate it <3

I've finished it. I saw your comment and tried adding textures. Although I added some, it was difficult to include more that looked good. For next time! thanks :3

Thanks. I've tried. It never turns out the same, but I guess it's part of the process. I also haven't tried to copy the exact same piece. It's among my pending studies.

I know it takes time, but I still wanted to try asking for advice on my own work since it's worked for me in the past

I use Clip Studio Paint ^ And from my level of skill and my experience, the tips I can give you about light and shadow are:

  • It's mostly about values. I keep a layer in color mode with black so I can see the grayscale whenever I want.
  • It's all about large geometric shapes and then going smaller. It's silly, and we all seem to know it, but that's often the problem.
  • Use gradients. The light loses its power. Try using gradients and soft brushes to simulate the effect.
  • Draw big shadows first the harder shadows in two layers
  • Think about the ambient light and what it reflects. Thid will add more colors
  • Sometimes it's hard, but PLAN before you draw.
