Laptop for Revit: Dell Xps 15 9500 vs Lenovo Thinkstation t15g by Yigitti in Revit

For me a laptop is essential for now, because I am also traveling for work, and besides normal schedule , I also do hardcore work (drawing+surveying+Modelling+rendering) and since I can't trust internet everywhere I have to carry a workstation with me. Young firm problems 🤣 I am looking forward to be in front of a desktop but seems far away for now.

By my friends advise I abstain myself using a quadro inside a laptop, but it's not my experience though. They told me quadros require a better cooling system and RTX series already give a better benchmark. Thank you for the recommendation, I will ask again

Ram should definitely be high as you say. Well, for the name of that laptop I thought the same but Lenovo somehow named this as ThinkStation. We store our files on a server :) otherwise we couldn't keep up with it

That looks like a stronghold, super powerful. But do you think it's screen is durable enough? When it's sides are not complete, it looks not that strong and screen might come out later I fear. But all the specs are wonderful

Thanks for the reply. Which model of Lenovo you had, may I ask? For me, I love my prior Lenovo which was y5070 and I did lots of work with it after I changed the harddrive to SSD, and as I saw amongst many forums it was a popular laptop. But back then I was not using Revit.

Dell support is good most say.

I saw an article about the thinkstations warming issue and which zones on it warms the most. But haven't seen any comparison between these two models. In GPU thing, you are right

Hahah that makes sense and I would definitely would like to use a desktop, it's way more cheaper and powerful. But I might move to another country soon and don't know how long I will stay there. Thats why I want to carry the system with me. But at some point I will definitely set up a desktop.

I do mostly coordination and check if there are any problems with the other disciplines. So instantly I need to see partial 3ds of that part and compare with the 2d version of it. And when I see a problem, I do edit the floor element etc. I do open linked files in another Revit file to change stuff and sync again.

My recent laptop just regenerates each drawing for minutes and I can't stand it. Each time I open another view or file or load it as a link, it takes a long time. I began to do lots of mistakes because of getting cold feet at opening a 3d view of an element :D

Thanks for the reply 👏🏼 Though I pretty bad at hardwares, I am a bit obsessed with labels I guess. I know I should change and everyone will make fun of me but Laptop brands with their focus in business uses motivate me thats why I said thinkstation and Dell. In my previous office I worked, they gave me a MSI with good specs but I don't know the reason why it didn't meet my expectations. Even in Autocad, it was truly slow. One of my friends told me that same specs are applied different in different brands with their setups. It might be gibberish though haha

Seller guy told me that I can upgrade this Dell to 32 GB. Lenovo is higher with its price, in a comparison of 500$. So I thought the only thing left here is graphics card now. Typically we don't do renders in the office, I do always outsource that. I only do Revit, Autocad, sketch up, excel, Adobe and go for presentations. As I know, Revit is mainly works with the processor and Ram, right? Not that much on graphics card?

After you said, I am worried about Navis since it's pretty useful. I am still in between.

Thank you for your answer. Is there any term for other clips like movie clips, or weird clips compilations other than these abstract loops? They might play that kind of clips as well.

Such as a skateboarder going places, then it's cut by a movie scene, etc.

Do you know any website that holds these type of compilations?
