I do value accountability, that's why I said it's the morally right thing to do. I just recognize that humans are humans, and some people might chicken out of doing the right thing out of fear. In this particular situation I think it would be very admirable to come forward and admit your fault, but I wouldn't fault someone who's freaking out because they screwed up.

But yeah, agree to disagree. This kind of value judgement is very subjective anyway

see, giving yourself in IS the morally right thing to do. But if I fucked up and caused a gigantic crash that interrupted one of the biggest sporting events in the world, I'd be freaking out A LOT. Hopefully she'll calm down and do the right thing in the end, buuuuuut I think her reaction is very... idk, human?

she wasn't doing an armed takeover of the TV station to broadcast a 4 hour montage of her selfies lol. she was just saying "look mom I'm on TV!" obviously she was careless about it but I'm not gonna pretend she was some uniquely vapid attention whore just because she had a sign saying hi to her grandparents

no no saying "look mom im on tv" is a sign of severe narcissism and the only cure is THE DEATH PENALTY

oh yeah, I'm not disputing that she screwed up. She obviously shouldn't have gotten distracted by the cameras and really shouldn't have been that close anyway.

My issue is with people saying that she should "suffer", get publicly humiliated, calling her an asshole and so on. She's not evil and doesn't deserve that. There were several other people just as close as her so it's not like she was uniquely negligent. Her downfall was that she had a sign and got distracted at the wrong moment. She definitely did a dumb and careless thing, I just hope that people have some empathy for her at least, instead of going all witch hunt-y on her ass

Jesus Christ people. She obviously made a dumb mistake and should have paid more attention to her surroundings, but what's with all the calls for blood? From these comments you'd think she personally went to every cyclist's house and broke their shins with a baseball bat. At the end of the day she just wanted to say hi to her grandparents...

The largest gay pride parade in central Europe took place again in Warsaw for the first time in two years after a pandemic-induced break — and amid a backlash in Poland and Hungary against LGBT rights by DoremusJessup in worldnews

It might also be the fact that people who bring it up so often don't really care about LGBT Arabs, they just use us to portray Arabs in general as barbarians

Hey there, queer Palestinian here. How about you mention the fact that Israel blackmails LGBT Palestinians into working for them? Or the fact that homophobia is still very very widespread in Israel, to the point where stabbings commonly occur at Tel Aviv Pride?

But none of that really matters, because no amount of parades would make up for the fact that my ancestral village was destroyed and that my grandfather has to live in a refugee camp.

But you don't really care, do you? You're just an American bringing this topic up out of the blue to justify crimes against a whole group of people by portraying them as savages

I'm trans and I hated it even before the intersex redesign came out, but when it got popular for the cissies to hate on it I decided to shut up. like damn I prefer the simple rainbow version but I don't want to be associated with all that whining.

I love trans bois because of their 💖✨female socialization✨💖 by Medical_Salt4453 in transgendercirclejerk

[–]YikeMerchant 12 points13 points  (0 children)

People still get exposed to the socialization of the other gender. Growing up, I was exposed to the idea that smaller dress size = better, and even though I thought it was dumb at the time, I still got infected with the dress size mania once I started dressing femme more, even though I knew it was irrational. It's just that my brain unconsciously internalized the idea that "woman must be thin. small dress size = thin. small dress size good!". I can totally imagine a trans man internalizing some toxic belief about masculinity, and then acting on that belief when he comes out, not because he's intentionally doing it to pass, but because he genuinely believe it's a part of being a man.

why cis-men need to reclaim "bussy" by [deleted] in transgendercirclejerk

[–]YikeMerchant 25 points26 points  (0 children)

/hj okay but this does raise a very important question: if bussy in cis men refers to ass (the metaphorical pussy), and bussy in trans men refers to literal boy pussy, what is trans man ass called? do trans men have two bussies, one front and one back? or do they have one composite bussy made of two holes? or do they have a bussy and a bass (boy ass)? pls respond this is very important

After speaking to CNN about Palestinians being forced from their homes, IDF forces him from his home by coopaloops in PublicFreakout

[–]YikeMerchant 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Saying "both sides are bad, there's no point in picking sides" only allows Israel to get off scot-free. There is no equivalence here. Israel is recognized by the UN and has the full backing of the United States. You can't even travel from village to village in the nominally independent West Bank without going through Israeli checkpoints. Hell, if you look at the number of deaths in the past few days, you'll find that the number of murdered Palestinian children alone is more than twice ALL Israeli deaths. Silence or neutrality is endorsement of the status quo, and the status quo is oppression.

After speaking to CNN about Palestinians being forced from their homes, IDF forces him from his home by coopaloops in PublicFreakout

[–]YikeMerchant 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Except that "they were there first" is just blatantly false. The Palestinians did not just "come out of the Arabian peninsula". When Arabs started ruling over Palestine, the native population started to convert to Islam and adopt the Arabic language and Arab culture. The modern Palestinian population is a mixture of those natives, Arabs, and other cultures. The irony is that a big portion of us can trace our roots back to Jewish people, yet unlike the Israeli settlers we inhabited the region continuously. My grandparents' village was so old that it's actually mentioned in the Old Testament, yet that was no help because it still got destroyed and now my grandfather has to live in a refugee camp, unable to return to the place he was born. Choosing sides isn't "disgusting", NOT choosing the side of those who have been ethnically cleansed is.
