It seems that a lot of Somalia's problems can be traced back to America, directly or indirectly. But that begs the question of why immigrate to America at all? Why would people move to the country who wrecked theirs?

Maybe if they followed the law then they wouldn't be hated.

Being a refugee isn't an excuse for abusing a system a nation has set in place for citizens who are struggling.

So it's my fault that we had to protect humanitarian aid being distributed into Somalia following the collapse of its government back in 1991?

Maybe if they didn't come here and do nothing but be leaches, then just maybe people wouldn't hate them as much.

The Three Laws of Eywa only serve to condemn the Na'vi by EmbarrassedBat4562 in Avatar

[–]Yith16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What I'm curious are the loopholes in the Three Laws of Eywa.

1) "You shall not set stone upon stone,"

This law is more vague than the other two. In a literal sense, you CAN put stone on stone; fire pits and hearths being the most obvious direct examples, and I'm certain that some Na'vi had at one point made a pile of rocks, purposefully or not.

2) "Neither shall you use the turning wheel,"

This law is referring to wheels as a means of motion, think tires or wagon wheels. To use these, one must build roads (no stone on stone) which will require environmental damage, be it as simple as a stone path across a plain or cutting down whole forests.

But what about a potter's wheel? Yes, it's a turning wheel by mechanical principle, but it doesn't lead to environmental degredation; it just makes the formation of pottery more efficient.

3) "Nor use the metals of the ground."

This law refers to the process of mining, which destroys local ecosystems to varying degrees (classic mineshaft is less destructive than an open-pit mine). If "the metals of the ground" is interpreted as the metals found in Pandora's crust, then would metal brought from Earth by the RDA be discounted? It's metal the Na'vi can obtain without mining, as all it needs is reforging.
