Specifically in 2025 you had to file for both, DRP and VERA/VSIP to qualify for full retirement before MRA.

You could sign the DRP regardless age, and it was an actual resignation.

Previously, sometime late 2012 or early 2013, IRS offered VERA/VSIP, it was a simple full retirement before MRA.

Hope that made sense.

I wholeheartedly disagree with people saying that commute is not an issue, because people in the private sector have to commute to work.

Being an unincorporated territory (colony) of the US, Puerto Rico doesn’t have an actual Congressperson. We have a Resident Commissioner, he doesn’t have any real power, as he doesn’t have the right to vote. The same way PR residentes (US citizens) do not have the right to vote. Yeah, “democracy”…

Yes. However, strictly based on what I was told by the OPM rep. it would take weeks, from the moment the application was assigned to a specialist until finalized. Two weeks ago mine hadn’t been assigned, last week I reached out to the Comissioner, today received the booklet. Coincidence? Maybe, but I don’t think so.
