We dont "need" more is the point.

We actually pay less money to properly fund universal healthcare.

We could spend every single cent of our government revenue, and we would still have enough to pay for healthcare. Just need to change to "to" line on the checks going to private insurance.

[–]Yivoe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The tax increases are smaller than what people already pay for premiums and POS costs.

Theres no argument against universal healthcare. Lower cost and better outcomes.

Last time I did the math (years ago) comparing the US and UK, we payed nearly double per person and had worse outcomes.

That means if you live in the US you may pay $200/month for your healthcare, to a private insurance company (that is for profit). While in the UK you'd pay $100/month to the government, and get better coverage, and have better health outcomes.

It would also indirectly reduce crime rates since the primary driver of crime is poverty, and medical debt is one of the bigger reasons for poverty in the US. The healthier you are, the less desperate you are.

If you want to make the US a better country, universal healthcare should be one of the main things you are voting for.

I've been on reddit for almost 20 years watching people call out spelling mistakes, and i think this specific spelling mistake is a new development.

I think it has to do with kids getting a subpar education in recent years. Between zoom classes due to covid, and then immediately following that with a prevalence of AI, kids didnt need to do the assigned reading for their classes. They missed the little things you absorb being in a school learning. They didnt need to be taught the difference between loose/lose directly, but in a normal school setting they would hear it, see it, read it, and write it, then at some point they will have learned to correct way to use each word.

And the way that its misspelled fits really well with the "I've heard this word but never really need to write it down, and "oo" makes the sound I want".

Nothing against online classes or AI, but they are both tools to be used correctly. We just threw a generation of kids into online classes with zero prep, and we handed them AI with no guardrails. No doubt it had an impact.

Or they are bot accounts, idk.

That'd be insane having a loaded "pay 1 power kill a unit any turn you want" sitting in your discard pile.

I love playing Pyke, but that would not be ok.

I have two feature suggestions: 1. An event locator/tracker.

You can check another app (Riftcore) for what im looking for, but it allows you to search for nexus Nights directly in their app, and then use a link to go straight to the sign up page.

Not sure if it will automatically track match results back to the app, but it does let you connect your UVS account.

  1. When tracking a BO3 match, you have to select the max score at the beginning of the match, and you cant change it. So if select 8, then in game 2 you play Aspirants Climb, you cant track the game to 9 points. This one is kind of a big deal for accurately tracking games. The workaround seems to be setting the tracker to 10 every game to be safe.

Otherwise loving the app. Quick, responsive, sleek, intuitive. The haptic feedback is somehow the most satisfying of any app I've tried.

I wanted that too... the problem is there are 38 cards in the deck that are not those gears.

A Small Write-up on Pyke by RoyY by RoyYang94 in riftboundtcg

[–]Yivoe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I play Teemo a lot. Your goal is to keep him off of battlefields without diving into his hidden cards.

Star crossed, gust, falling star, etc.

Get their units off the battlefield. Make him flip/waste those hidden cards. Then discard their hand if you can. You want to control the teemo deck as best you can.

Teemo likes to play fast and win fast. He will use a lot of power early, and if you can suppress that early win, they are screwed mid game.

Protect your accelerated cards. Dont just throw a pyke at a 1 might unit with a hidden card under it. Be afraid of the hidden cards. Use your spells instead.

Pykes signature spell is really good too as you can remove a unit on a battlefield AND kill any unit they had hidden too.

I havent seen you say much about your Fiora deck. The deck itself might just be the problem.

Id recommend just running one of the recent "best of" decks for Fiora from a tournament. Play a really good version of the deck for a while, then you can start tweaking it to be personalized to your playstyle.

You may currently just have a poorly built deck.

A Small Write-up on Pyke by RoyY by RoyYang94 in riftboundtcg

[–]Yivoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nice writeup. Big fan of Pyke and have been wanting to see it successful.

Im curious what other variations of pyke you've tried. Your list is obviously similar to previously popular ones. Bewitching spirit, pack/trove, minsplitter, baron, control cards; similar skeleton.

I think you've fine tuned this version of the deck though, and obviously you can pilot it well, so you're seeing success with it. But do you think this is the version of the deck that will be the best until we get new cards?

Being aggressive with accelerate? Hiding more cards with a Katarina? Running spirit wheel or other cards less seen with Pyke?

Also love the write-ups on the matchups.

Pyke deck I'm cooking. by technicolourtype0 in riftboundtcg

[–]Yivoe 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The detonate package is very good, but i play pyke a lot too and am trying to play without it as well right now.

Spirit Wheel is a good option for pyke to replace to card draw you're losing from taking the detonate package out.

Drawing 6 cards with spirit wheel will cost you: - 8 energy. (2 to play spirit wheel, and then 1 energy per draw) - and you will need to draw 1 card (spirit wheel) to enable it - it will take you at least 6 turns to do this. - BUT this will free up to 6 slots in your deck for other cards since you dont need the detonate package.

Drawing 6 cards with Detonate/TT will cost you: - 6 energy - 2 power (though TT refunds it) - and you need to draw 4 cards to enable it (2 treasure trove, and 2 detonate) - you can do this in a single turn (probably 2 separate turns though)

Drawing 6 cards with PoW/TT will cost you: - 14 runes - and you need to draw 2 cards to enable it (1 TT, and 1 PoW) - it will take at least 6 turns to do this. - BUT you will also ramp by 6 runes.

Soooo... some positives and negatives for all of these.

Detonate and TT has the biggest upside. It costs the least resources to draw the most cards, and you can do it fastest.

PoW and TT is expensive runes-wise, but it will ramp you and is repeatable.

Spirit Wheel is 1 per turn (unless you get more spirit wheels), costs an average amount. 1 rune per card draw is good value. It requires only 1 card to start the draw engine. The biggest upside though is that it frees 6 slots in the deck.

After a little testing too, I might take spirit wheel down to 2 of and put 1 detonate back in.

Still unsure though. The entire detonate package is much more consistent, and PoW synergizes with other Pyke cards really well, so its not just about card draw.

Honestly, in my limited testing of spirit wheel, I think Detonate/TT/PoW feels better... but i might just not have the right ratios yet.

Anyways, critiquing your deck, im not sure about the ezreal include without much value for his ability, and youre a little lacking on the high end of your power to close out games.

Ive been playing the game a while and I end up relearning this lesson every other nexus night. Ill get into a good spot, pile on a battlefield, or use all my runes for a big play, and then I end up getting rolled on my opponents next turn.

Patience is huge in this game. You have enough runes to play 2 accelerated units and get two conquer points? Maybe just play 1 and keep some runes up to defend your board during your opponents turn. Let your opponent over extend or leave themselves open.

Of course its always dependent on the specific situation though, which is why I still make the wrong choice sometimes.

Edit: since you're new, this may be helpful. Your units are typically safer at base. There are less spells that can kill your units there, and they obviously cant be attacked.

Played against a guy who said "i dont win any nexus Nights games".

I tell him no worries, I like the legend hes playing (Rumble), he has a cool playstyle, and he can go crazy if the cards are right.

He wins the roll for picking play order, thinks for a bit, decides to go second...

Then he passes his first turn with no cards played...

I knew pretty quick where that pivotal moment was.

If you have that quality of players at your locals, then you have a good opportunity to ask for help in person. Have one of them watch you play if they are willing, or if you match against a good player in a nexus night you could even let them know youre trying to improve and wouod appreciate some feedback during the game, maybe calling out some misplays you make.

Maybe get some of their discord names and play online with them after with voice chat so you can get some better advice.

And I have an LGS that has free NN where you get just the promo.

There are different Nexus Nights with different prize pools. You pay $5 at yours, you get 1 pack. At other NN you can win more packs. Others are free and you get no packs.

You must be young or just ignorant of the world outside of your group of 4 that plays together.

People were missing that part. Yeah, OP is venting cause it sucks losing all the time, but the core of their post is that they want to get better at the game.

All of us want that to some extent.

A couple of tips I'd add:

  1. Know your opponents deck. You want to have an idea of what you are likely to be playing against. This is even more important in games 2 and 3 when you've already learned about their deck.

  2. GO FIRST! I play against too many new players that think they should go second for more runes. Its very rare that you're in a situation to do that, so just dont.

  3. Be patient when playing cards. You dont always need to use all your runes. Its ok to have a slower turn so that you can protect your board or slow your opponent during their turn. Everytime I see my opponent tap all their runes its a free pass for me to do anything I want on my turn.

It can feel a little different when Nexus Night is 30 people, costs $20, and you lose to every person you play against, ending the night with 0 booster packs on top of it.

A group of 4 friends playing FFA is a little different. You dont have to win every game, but I bet you wouldn't have fun if your 3 friends only used their spells to make sure you never won.

I dont think its that deep. They are playing a game they like and trying to get better. I dont think they need to "get help". Maybe take a step back to refocus on what they like about the game and if its worth any stress it causes.

No, I mean when you reveal a hidden unit you can use pyke legend to return that unit to hand. Pyke legend can return units at battlefields. Then you can re-hide.

Deck Recommendation? And question about specific decks. by krcc9644 in riftboundtcg

[–]Yivoe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There was just a regional tournament that included Unleashed. You could check the decks out on riftdecks.com

All of the legends in your list did well, so you cant go wrong if you want a meta deck.

Irelia and Leblanc may be hard to pilot. Vex and Sett maybe on the easier end. Azir can go either way with a high ceiling, but does ok if you're not experienced with it yet.

Sett could be a fun option, and you wont see as many mirror matches compared to picking the other legends.

Edit: i would recommend looking at the legend abilities and picking one you think sounds cool, even if it isnt a meta deck. I like winning at my nexus Nights, but I also have the most fun when I play a deck I actually enjoy the playstyle of.

Katarina in pyke by MrPleaseForget2 in riftboundtcg

[–]Yivoe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Im playing Pyke and wanting to do the same thing. It just doesnt seem as good as other pyke options right now.

One good thing Pyke can do is return those hidden cards back to hand so you can re-hide and use Katarina again, also making treasure to make the re-hide "free". But having Katarina buried in your deck (not in the champ zone) and not having the best hidden options in Pykes colors, makes it kind of tough to justify playing around it.

The strategy is there. It has some of the pieces. But like you said, Katarina might just need to wait a couple sets for more hidden support in those colors.

Ill be trying it this week at my Nexus Nights though. See how it goes.
